Shoot me but I had to do it..
Posted by: smketrfdny - 07-28-2013, 03:55 PM - Forum: Member's Rigs/restoration Projects - Replies (64)

While many of the Brothers here on FP are also on Facebook, many are not. Hopefully next Saturday I will have my F.D.N.Y Cf running and get it hauled to Maryland for restoration. Well anyway, Friday I was working side gig @LGA when I look and see discussion on an open cab CF. While perusing the discussion, I find out its for sale VERY cheap. But it is in California, and its only $1500. Call the place (Fire Trucks Plus, IIRC) and discussed the rig with the owner. He was reluctant to rid of it due to its rarity in the fire buff field, but offered it for a steal instead of rotting away. So the infamous Pomona, CA CF Mack has a new owner. Cannot figure out how to copy a link off photobucket, so i will post pics later. An F.D.N.Y. mechanic has offered to help remove the tons of oxidation and get it looking good, but I think the fiberglass front will need a repaint (FDNYTRUCKS.com DO NOT tell him......lmao). And YES, the top is coming off. I have an estimate of $2700 to ship cross country, so $4200 is not really a bad price. Now I need to find storage. Any help is appreciated.

Stay safe, Brothers.

First On Scene Wildland Fire, Castle Pines CO 7-27-13
Posted by: Guest - 07-28-2013, 01:23 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (15)

Yesterday afternoon my Fiancé, Rachel and I were driving through Castle Pines when we spotted a small amount of white smoke in the open space.  Our recent burn ban was lifted a few days ago so I assumed this was a controlled fire with a permit.  As we got closer the fire was growing and flames were visible from a mile away.  I was the first to call the comm center with multiple 911's that shortly followed.  I grabbed my department radio, Rachel took my camera and we made a 1/2 mile walk to where some people were.

They had been shooting off model rockets which started the fire, two of them tried to put the fire out and were unable to.

The initial tone was for a small brush fire, bringing two Structure Engines and two Type 6 brush trucks.  I immediately upgraded the assignment to a large brush fire response (adding a Battalion, Safety, Wildland Duty Officer, Medic, a Type 1 Engine, 2 Type 3 Engines & Water Tender) and sized up 1/2 acre in scrub oak with moderate spread.

(No PPE due to the large football field which served as a more than adequate safety zone)

  Dundalk, MD 3rd Alarm - 7/27/13
Posted by: Guest - 07-28-2013, 01:18 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (17)

Shortly before 10 p.m. on Saturday, July 27th, Baltimore County (MD) eastside fire units were dispatched to the vacant Seagram's plant in the 7100 block of Sollers Point Road in Dundalk for a reported building fire. This complex has been the site of multiple previous fires. BCoFD Engine 6 (Dundalk station) arrived with heavy fire showing from multiple floors and immediately requested a second alarm. A civilian was reported trapped in the building but jumped from the 3rd floor, they were transported with serious injuries to an area hospital. Firefighters encountered water problems and a collapse of part of the building, command ordered exterior operations. At the height of the fire, three ladder pipes were used to combat the flames and embers that were threatening exposures. Command eventually requested a third alarm assignment, and units from Baltimore City Fire Department responded on mutual aid.

This continues the tradition of at least one multiple-alarm fire in the region during the Firehouse Expo.  I was glad to buff this one with my Dad, a Fire Bell Club of New York board member who was visiting for the weekend.

We got there about 30 minutes into the call ...

On July 16 at about 1800, calls started coming in for a house fire at 415 NE 127th Ave. Responding companies observed a large column of smoke (for the 2nd day in a row). With heavy smoke showing, Engine 7 laid in from the south and Engine 30 laid in from the north.

Rope Rescue in Portland - 7-24-13
Posted by: Guest - 07-25-2013, 11:02 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (5)

7-24-13, 05:48. 2-car MVA on Marine Drive, notorious for bad accidents.

Response: E30, 12, Truck 2, C3.

One car rolled over the embankment, stopping just short of the Columbia River. Both drivers transported with non life-threatening injuries. The driver in the rolled over car was packaged at the bottom of the embankment, then in a Stokes basket, was carried up the bank, assisted by a low-angle rope setup. I could not shoot the original setup because of people in the way.

Desert Southwest Fire and EMS Expo 2013 - Glendale, AZ
Posted by: Image7801 - 07-24-2013, 07:59 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (53)

As part of the annual Desert Southwest Fire and EMS Leadership Conference, sponsored by the Arizona Fire Chiefs' Association, there is a one-day expo held at the University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, home of the Arizona Cardinals.

The Conference attracts fire service leaders from all over Arizona (I didn't bother to try and photograph all the staff/command vehicles present) to the week-long conference and education seminars.

This is my second year attending the expo and found some changes from last year, most notably, a distinct absence of a certain manufacturer (actually two - Seagrave didn't bother to attend, either) that starts with a P and just celebrated 100 years (that may be why they weren't there).

So, I'm going to post the photos as I get time.

First up, I thought this was the coolest rig at the show - I'm not really an E\-One fan, but this rig was great.  2013 E\-One Typhoon eMax pumper.  1500/150gpm with pump & roll/780gwt/30a, bumper turret, rescue compartments, etc...
