  2AM House Fire, Portland 7-7-13
Posted by: Guest - 07-14-2013, 11:01 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (3)

Just before 2AM a box was transmitted for a house fire at Bush St. and 8th Ave.

Usually I would not go so far for a house fire (about 130 blocks), but playing a

hunch I got dressed and started.

When first due Eng. 20 arrived, Capt. Boone reported the first floor fully involved

and it would be a defensive fire. Shortly before I arrived, the heavy fire had been

knocked down and Truck 25 opened the roof.

I have poor luck with flash reflecting from the scotchlight, so I posted these mainly

to show you can get usable hand held photos with high ISO and low shutter speeds.

It was very dark when this was taken.

EXIF: ISO 3200, f2.8, 0.4 sec.

This was taken after Truck 25 turned on some lights.

EXIF: ISO 3200, f3.1, 1/10 sec.

Aurora, CO Defensive House Fire 7/13/13
Posted by: Guest - 07-14-2013, 10:17 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (15)

Around 10:30 Saturday morning tones went out for a structure fire at 4634 South Norfolk Way.  As I turned out of my house and looked west there was already a well developed column in the air.  My fiancé was riding shotgun and took a few photos of the column on the way in.  Neighbors reported explosions and a person burned, prompting a special call for another Engine & Medic.

  Aurora, CO Capsized Boat 7/6/13
Posted by: Guest - 07-11-2013, 03:43 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

In the afternoon Aurora BC3, E10, E8, T14, HR8 & M106 were dispatched to a boat accident with people in the water at Aurora Reservoir.  Battalion 3 placed the South Metro Fire Dive Team on standby and requested additional medic units.  I live closer to the area than the nearest fire station and quickly drove over.  The report was a capsized boat, 3 people still in the water and one drifting away from the others.  When I arrived the Park Ranger Boat was approaching the scene, the boat was upside down about 150 yards from shore.

  Centennial, CO Brush Fire 6/28/13
Posted by: Guest - 07-11-2013, 03:31 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (12)

Around 9 am South Metro & Cunningham Firefighters were dispatched to a vegetation fire started by fireworks in the 6600 block of South Dunkirk.  I was nearby and could see smoke in the air.  I arrived just ahead of Cunningham Engine & Brush 62 and found about 2 acres involved, burning at a slow rate of spread.  There was no driving access for the brush trucks because of a marsh between the road and the fire.  A progressive hose lay was used to start a direct attack.

The crew from 62 pulls their first section of line

Firefighters were dispatched to a report of an alarm going off in a residence.  Upon arrival of the first due engine there was no smoke or fire visible.  After a quick size up light smoke was visible from a third floor window.  By the time firefighters started to stretch the fire blew out the third floor windows in the front.  Of course I arrived to just as they opened the line and darkened the fire down.

  Difficult Extrication - Portland 7-8-13
Posted by: Guest - 07-10-2013, 11:43 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (9)

Around 5PM Engine 29 and Truck 7 were dispatched to an accident on SE 111th Ave.

near Foster Road. I was busy at the time so I did not realize it was a major incident.

Apparently, a large truck lost its brakes on a steep hill. There was a curve at the

bottom,  but the truck continued straight through the guard rail, flew across a ravine

and slammed into the opposite bank, killing the driver instantly.

Since it was going to be a very difficult extrication the police dismissed the apparatus

temporarily and recalled them around 8PM after their investigation was finished.

The photos start when I arrived back at the scene with Truck 7.

We can just see the truck through the trees in the ravine.

Looking down at the truck. The large tank, seen on the left,  broke free and flew ahead of the truck on impact.

The hill can be seen in the distance.
