It is with deep regret that the Quincy, MA FD and IAFF Local 792 announce the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter John Austin, on July 8, 2013. Arrangements are forthcoming.
On a personal note, John was a friend, having been a student in my EMT course in Spring of 2012. He was a very funny guy who understood the seriousness of things, yet could always find a way to lighten the mood. I would have trusted him with my life, and I know many of the members of QFD that did just that. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and the QFD. Rest in Peace John, your tour is done.

It's hard to believe no one (on Firepix) had a fire over the 4th. In the Boston area.
Until the mid 80s, when I left, there were non-stop fires, especially on the night
before the 4th.

Ok I have been posting updates in Fire Service Related not knowing where else to post.
The Carpenter Canyon 1 fire is up to over 8000 achers right now and is threatening 400 homes. I have lived in the Las Vegas Valley for years and this is the worst wild fire that I remember in the area. Here is a video that Appreared on of the New Stations. Take a look. I live at East Lake Mead Blvd and Pecos Road and I can see the collum of smoke from the fire very clearly. Tom I plan on taking a road trip to Ann Rd and Fort Apache and getting some pictures but here is the video and the link to the article.
Listening to the scanner this morning I could hear City of Las Vegas, Clark County and other departments being moved up to the fire area. I know several units moved up to Station 81 and being staged in the area.
Station 81 is the Mount Charleston Station.
