Early Morning House Fire - Portland 7-8-13
Posted by: Guest - 07-10-2013, 11:19 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (6)

At 0515 a box was transmitted for a house fire at 10923 NE Fremont St. While several blocks away, Truck 2 reported a column of smoke.

Truck 2 tried to access the roof to ventilate but there was too much fire so Engine 30 set up their deck gun to knock down the heaviest fire.

It was a vacant building so no one was allowed to enter until the bulk of the fire was knocked down from outside.

It is with deep regret that the Quincy, MA FD and IAFF Local 792 announce the Line of Duty Death of Firefighter John Austin,  on July 8, 2013.  Arrangements are forthcoming.

On a personal note, John was a friend, having been a student in my EMT course in Spring of 2012.  He was a very funny guy who understood the seriousness of things, yet could always find a way to lighten the mood.  I would have trusted him with my life, and I know many of the members of QFD that did just that. My thoughts and prayers are with him, his family and the QFD. Rest in Peace John, your tour is done.

In the early hours of July 6th, a 77 car train carrying crude oil derailed in the small town of Lac-Megantic in the province of Quebec. This town is located about an hour away from the border just North of Maine.

Multiple explosions followed and some cars are still burning as of today (July 7th). Many agencies from Canada and from Maine responded. More than 50 are feared dead as most of the downtown area of this town of 6,000 has been destroyed.

  4th of July Fires
Posted by: Guest - 07-06-2013, 10:06 AM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (6)

It's hard to believe no one (on Firepix) had a fire over the 4th. In the Boston area.

Until the mid 80s, when I left, there were non-stop fires, especially on the night

before the 4th.

Stormy Weather - Elk Garden, WV - Parade, 07/05/13
Posted by: YeOldeEnjine - 07-06-2013, 01:16 AM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (40)

I was invited to judge Elk District FD's annual parade on Friday July 5th. in Elk Garden, WV. So between judging I was able to grab a couple of photos.

The weather went from Sunshine and not a cloud in the sky to dark clouds and a down pour within the hour, so some of the photos suffered because of the weather......

There was one rig attending the event that was making it's first public appearance, and I really wanted to grab a couple of shots of it.

But, First up is Elk District's former Engine 144

1944 Chevy pumper now owned by a former Chief of the department.

WILDFIRE OUTSIDE OF LAS VEGAS, NV
Posted by: nozzleman - 07-05-2013, 09:16 PM - Forum: Videos - Replies (3)

Ok I have been posting updates in Fire Service Related not knowing where else to post.

The Carpenter Canyon 1 fire is up to over 8000 achers right now and is threatening 400 homes. I have lived in the Las Vegas Valley for years and this is the worst wild fire that I remember in the area. Here is a video that Appreared on of the New Stations. Take a look. I live at East Lake Mead Blvd and Pecos Road and I can see the collum of smoke from the fire very clearly. Tom I plan on taking a road trip to Ann Rd and Fort Apache and getting some pictures but here is the video and the link to the article.

Listening to the scanner this morning I could hear City of Las Vegas, Clark County and other departments being moved up to the fire area. I know several units moved up to Station 81 and being staged in the area.

Station 81 is the Mount Charleston Station.
