I thought that this might be an interesting thread:  Apparatus that have been photographed in more than one department by the same photographer.  Over the past ten years or so, I have happened upon a fairly sizeable number of apparatus that I previously photographed in a different department.  I even have a couple rigs that I have photographed in three departments.  Sometimes the apparatus has gone through changes, sometimes not.  Some look very different, others look just like they did before, except for the name on the door.  You can also see that my photography skills have improved somewhat over the years!  I'm also curious to see what others have shot "more than once", so please add whatever you have that's fits in here.  Enjoy!

  Musée des Sapeurs-Pompiers de France
Posted by: Guest - 06-16-2013, 03:22 AM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (1)

In a sleepy corner of north west France is the "Musée des Sapeurs-Pompiers de France", an amazing collection of 40+ vehicles associated with French firefighting across the decades.

They have a website at
http://www.musee-sapeurs-pompiers.org/ if you want to take a look.

From their collection, i've selected two shots which may be of interest to you guys. Enjoy.

Cheers - John

Cloud Backup of Your Photographic Collection?
Posted by: Guest - 06-15-2013, 07:14 AM - Forum: Photography Discussion - Replies (12)

All

I'm interested in how other photographers are safeguarding their irreplaceable photographic collection from loss or corruption. I've religiously backed up from PC to several 1 TB (terrabyte) external hard drives over the last 10 years, but remain paranoid that one day that will fail too. Some of my earliest CD backups (remember CDs - only 650Mb max - or less than 100 pics in today's money) are also not performing that well when tested.

I've recently moved across to a cloud storage provider, and have just spent the last four days uploading over 200Gb of photo folders to them. At less than GBP £10 per month, with on-line access and folder structures from anywhere with an internet connection, I am now sleeping a little better at night knowing that there is a remote, secure copy of my work, just in case the local fire service ever has need to turn up for real.

Is anyone else using the cloud for this purpose yet? I'd be interested to learn the level of interest and the sort of companies that provide a decent level of storage and access. I'm using LiveDrive for my purposes, who provide a standard maximum of 5 TB of storage.

Cheers - John

  Latest Surrey (UK) Scanias
Posted by: Guest - 06-15-2013, 06:54 AM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (6)

Surrey Fire & Rescue Service is the county immediately to the south of London.

Having been a long time fan of Dennis appliances, recent annual fleet updated have consisted of Scanias - currently the P280. 2012 truck EU12FHK is seen in Epsom on 1st June, patrolling the area around the Epsom racecourse several hours before the Queen arrived to watch the Epsom Derby horse race.
