Is this photo offensive?

http://www.latimes.com/local/lanow/la-la...6665.story

Apparently some people find the photo posted in the above linked article to be offensive setting off yet another "controversy" A little background on where this photo was taken.

The first week in June to help raise money for LAFRA (Los Angeles Firemen's relief association) the LAFD holds an event in Downtown known as Hope 4 Firefighter's. It's a fantastic event. Various Los Angeles Fire Station's with a corporate sponsor line Hope St in Downtown LA and serve either food or desert there is also a theme as seen in the photo in the article. While enjoying a culinary delight from one of the booths spectators can watch muster teams from local business's partake in several muster events the winning team being crowned Hope 4 Firefighter's champ.

Now my rant.

I am Hispanic and I don't find this photo the least bit offensive. I think it's quite funny what offends me is those who are claiming to be offended by this photo. I can't believe there are those who find this photo to be offensive fake mustaches and sombreros? Give me a break there are bigger issues going on in the world right now than a group of firefighter's posing for a funny photo with the Chief!.

5 Homes Burn In Aurora, CO 3rd Alarm 6/11/13
Posted by: Guest - 06-13-2013, 09:18 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (20)

On Tuesday afternoon during a record setting high temperature day (103 degrees) and 20 mph winds... Aurora Firefighters were dispatched to a fence fire threatening a structure at 1735 South Pagosa Way.  First due Engine 9 sized up two homes fully involved with exposure problems and transmitted a 2nd Alarm.

This is a patio home community with poor access and narrow walkways.  The buildings in Red were a total loss, the orange sustained heavy damage.

These first shots were taken by fellow photographer Dave Radomski from the west side of the incident, he arrived a little before I did.

Most Destructive Fire In Colorado History 6/12/13
Posted by: Guest - 06-13-2013, 05:43 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (20)

On going as I type is the Black Forest Fire burning in northern El Paso County, Colorado.  The fire started on June 11th in the community of Black Forest and quickly grew into a raging interface fire.  Currently northeastern portions of the City of Colorado Springs are under mandatory evacuation.  Multiple air & ground resources are assigned to the 15,000+ acre fire which destroyed 360 home as of this morning... The Waldo Canyon Fire in Colorado Springs last July destroyed 346 homes, making it the now second most destructive.   There are fears that several people may have been killed and the CO USAR TF1 has been on stand by to go search once the fire conditions calm down.

I was able to get some photos yesterday... This is what it looked like from southern Elbert County around 11 am.

Flames from fully involved structures and group torching could be seen from several miles away

Posted by: nozzleman - 06-12-2013, 08:55 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (17)

This afternoon I stopped by Clark County Fire Dept's Station 11 and while I was there the Rescue and Ladder were toned out for a vehicle fire on the strip. The vehicle was a Bell Tran Shuttle Bus and it was basically a total loss.

Engines 15 and 19

Truck 11

Rescue 11

along with Metro and Nevada State Patroll were on the scene,

By the time I was able to get there the fire was out but I did get a few pictures. As I was leaving Station 11 I could see a nice black collum of smoke.

  5/16/13 House Fire Gresham, OR
Posted by: gmuhr - 06-12-2013, 01:08 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (6)

On 5/16/13 Gresham Fire was dispatched to a report of a house fire. The first due engine reported seeing a large header from about 1/2 mile out and requested an additional water tanker due to the remote location. Initial reports indicated there was an occupant unaccounted for. First in crews made an aggressive attack while other crews made a search. They found the occupant just a few feet inside the front door, the crews worked for about 30 minutes to try and revive the patient but unfortunately were unsuccessful.

5/15/13 High Speed MVA Gresham, OR
Posted by: gmuhr - 06-12-2013, 12:45 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (8)

At approximately 6:40pm dispatch reported a two car MVA at Highway 26 and Hillyard Rd. I left as soon as I heard the initial dispatch since I knew this was a bad intersection. By the time I reached my car it was upgraded to a pin-in with one car on fire and Life Flight was placed on standby due to the location, severity of the accident and time of day. I arrived on scene right behind the first due engine.

First shot walking up.

A view from the other side.

You can see the car that was struck by the high speed driver was completely torn into two pieces and the motor was several hundred feet from the car. Needless to say the driver did not survive the collision.
