18:30 Willimantic (Ct) fire was dispatched to St. Marys Church for smoke

coming from the building. First due found heavy smoke coming from the

building, In a short time a 3rd alarm was requested. Crews made entry

with a 2.5 line to attack the fire, as 4 towers and a ladder set up. After a

while the conditions deteriorated and command evacuated the building and

went defensive with master streams. The fire ran the roof line for

crews were allowed to re-enter the building and to work the hot spot.

Chevy Suburban / GMC Yukon XL 2500
Posted by: npfd801 - 05-17-2013, 07:05 PM - Forum: Apparatus Scuttlebut - Replies (5)

Had the pleasure of finding out this week that GM has discontinued production of the 2500 variety of the Suburban and Yukon XL for 2014.  All indicators point that there will never be another 3/4-ton variant of the Suburban.

GM never told our usual dealer that this was happening, and when we missed the cutoff to order a 2013, we were pretty much screwed.  Victory Red (the usual fire engine red color) is a special order only, so they're just not out there.  Even fairly simply equipped Suburbans and Yukons in the 2500 variant are very rare in other colors.

Very unhappy with GM.  There is now no option available for a heavy duty SUV for our use. If anyone knows of a victory red 2500 4x4 Suburban or Yukon XL out there, I'll reward you some sort of finder's fee.  They simply are not out there...

  Littleton, CO House Fire 5/14/13
Posted by: Guest - 05-15-2013, 10:22 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (17)

In the afternoon Littleton Firefighters were dispatched to multiple reports of a house fire at 5868 South Rapp Street.  While units were responding there was also a report of two people trapped and a black column of smoke was widely visible.  First due (3 person) Engine 11 laid in 5" supply line from Church & Rapp and found a small house well involved exposing the Bravo exposure.  The Captain deployed an 1.75" with CAFS for exposure protection on the bravo side.  Next arriving Squirt 12 set up for exposure protection on the Delta Side and Engine 13 pulled a 2.5" line.  An additional 1.75" was pulled by Medic 13 and the fire was quickly knocked down.  Crews pushed inside for a primary search and fire attack and found the building clear.  Both occupants safely exited the Charlie side and were in the alley, neither made themselves known until questioned by police.  No injuries occurred and investigators from LFR & LPD were on scene.

I've seen a fair amount of rebuilds they've done, and am amazed by their work. If you have any photos of their work or shop. Also if you know where they were originally from I'd love to hear that also.

Have a great week,

John

Lincolnwood, IL Restaurant Fire 3900 Devon 5/8/13
Posted by: Guest - 05-14-2013, 08:01 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (15)

Took in a job at a local landmark restaurant, Myron & Phil's..3900

Devon. The fire appeared to be in a storage area attached to the rear of

the building. The fire was through the roof about the time I arrived,

but was pretty well confined to the kitchen and storage area. Apparently

the Lincolnwood tower was OOS...both the reserve and frontline

Lincolnwood engines were there, and the Skokie tower was used for roof

access. I believe 1 member was injured..didn't sound serious from what I

could gather.

I had my first day of Blue Card simulation labs today and just after I got home Engine & Brush 13 were dispatched to a brush fire in my neighborhood.  I cruised over for a look and found a 5 gallon gas container on fire along a residential fence.
