  Winchester Apple Blossom?

Tomorrow, 5/3/13, is the firefighters parade; in years past, this would have been discussed with much speculation and anticipation, but nothing has been mentioned.

Another Facebook casualty?

  Bronx 5th Alarm 05/02/13
Posted by: Guest - 05-02-2013, 03:25 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (40)

Around 0615 hours FDNY was dispatched to the area of East 226 Street and White Plains Road for a fire in a garage. The fire spread to exposure 3, a 2 story commercial building.  It ended up going to 5 alarms, and caused the shut down of the #2 and #5 subway between Gun Hill Road and 241 St during rush hour. The subway in this area is elevated, and was right in front of the fire buildings.  I got there about 2 hours into the operation.

The Antique Fire Association Of New Jersey held it's 5th annual spring apparatus muster at Horseshoe Lake Park in Succasunna, NJ on April 27th.  Here's my shots from the event.

First truck of the day was Lincoln Park's 1967 Maxim Model S pumper.

ASV buys Marque & McCoy Miller from Thor
Posted by: nealcraig - 05-02-2013, 08:24 AM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (6)

Heard this morning that ASV - Allied Specialty Vehicle Group - has purchased Marque & McCoy Miller brands from Thor Industries. This means that ASV in addition to E\-One Fire Trucks now owns 75% of ambulance brands - Horton, Wheeled Coach, Road Rescue, AEV, Leader, McCoy Miller, and Marque. That means 7 votes at AMD meetings ie a lot of clout.

  3" hose?
Posted by: wvguy38 - 04-30-2013, 07:07 PM - Forum: Fire Service Related - Replies (3)

My department has probably 2,000' of extra 3" cotton jacket hose NST. We've had it in storage for a few years after switching to 5" LDH. Anyone know of any departments that could use some hose? We'd have no problem donating it if needed, all you'd have to do is just come get it.

Any suggestions?

FDIC 2013 - From the show floor
Posted by: Roto-Ray - 04-29-2013, 10:49 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (134)

Well, another FDIC has come and gone, and I've tried to capture the essence of the show for those who weren't able to attend.

First up are the new letters that were put up this year at the entrance to the Lucas Oil Stadium.  Will the Firepixer who was assaulted by the "D" while getting photo taken in a windstorm identify himeself?  We'll see...

I was up in Farmington this past Saturday for the State JROTC Drill Meet and had a opportunity to catch a few trucks that were new since my 2010 visit. There were 3 but, unfortunately, due to time contraints I could only catch up with 2 of them.

Littleton, CO Mobile Home Fire 4/28/13
Posted by: Guest - 04-29-2013, 11:42 AM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (11)

Last night Littleton Firefighters were dispatched to a structure fire at 8201 South Santa Fe Drive.  A man soldering under a mobile home sparked a fast moving fire that he attempted to control with a garden hose.  After he was forced out the fire department was called.  First due Engine 16 found smoke showing from the crawl space and pulled a 1.75" line.  Heavy fire conditions were seen under the trailer and coming up through the floor.  E11 made a long 5" supply lay and advanced a backup line side.  As crews opened up fire was found in the walls and attic space.  The flames self vented around an air cooling unit on the roof prompting a withdraw.  Companies continued to fight the fire from outside the doors and from the gable ends.  The man working under the home was transported emergent for burns and smoke inhalation.

Around 10:00 a full haz-mat response was dispatched to 3350 Peoria Street at the Concentra Urgent Care.  A man with chemical burns from sodium hydroxide entered the facility and everyone he came into contact with began experiencing respiratory problems.  The man quickly left and drove himself to the nearby University Hospital ER.  Meanwhile crews at the urgent care found nearly a dozen people requiring precautionary decon.  The entire building was evacuated and HVAC shut down until entry crews could investigate air levels.

Units lined up on the delta side of the building...

Brockton, MA 2nd Alarm House Fire 4/27
Posted by: Guest - 04-28-2013, 12:02 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (12)

I just happened to be at my favorite Friday night watering hole when I heard the traffic siren in front of Engine's 2 house go off, which is next door. I put the audio link on my phone and caught the address, which was only 2 blocks away. Bartender I said, put it on my tab and out the door I went. Just after midnight the FAO received several calls from the PD reporting a house fire on Warren Ave in the Campello section of the city. Engines 2,4, Tower 1 and Squad A along with Deputy Chief Kevin Galligan in Car 56 resonded. Engine 2, 1st due had heavy fire showing from the 2nd floor and rapidly extending into the attic. With reports of people still in the building, Senior Man Crooker of Engine 2 ordered a 2nd alarm. Engines 5,7, Ladder 1 with Engine 3 as the RIT team were due. A search of the building proved negative for occupants. Deputy Chief Williams arrived and assumed command and had members exit the building so Tower 1 could knock down the heavy fire in the attic which members had differculty getting to.
