Perhaps this is old news, but just saw today on our local Sutphen dealer's Facebook page that they're delivering three Sutphen engines to Gary.  White over red...  There's a photo...

  Gowans Knight Visit
Posted by: Guest - 03-05-2013, 06:16 AM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (6)

Yesterday afternoon myself and 4 other committee members made the two hour trip to Gowans Knight in Watertown, CT for the final inspection on our new First Response unit. There were a few other units they had at the shop that were in progress. One was an E\-One refurb for Andover CT, a new Engine for Woodbury CT, a new Rescue for Bedford NY, a new service unit for Fairfield CT, and if I remember correctly a new First Response unit for Watertown.

The first two pictures are of Fairfields Service Unit and Andovers refurb.

2nd Alarm Fire 64 Griswold St. Torrington, CT 03-04-13
Posted by: hoss - 03-04-2013, 10:20 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (20)

My 45 minute response time kept me from getting the flames ripping out of this place like it was on the arrival of the first due companies. What a great stop - the siding on the house on the D side was about to be next on old man fire's list.

Sedan cab apparatus, 1975 or older
Posted by: GA_Dave - 03-03-2013, 03:01 PM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (80)

The thread "Commercial Canopy Cab Apparatus"  sparked the idea for this thread.  We are all too familiar with the "square box" custom cabs we have these days and we have been looking at 4 door, crew cab International 4900's and Freightliner FL-80's for years.  This thread is about fully enclosed cabs from back in the days before everyone was doing it.  This includes 1975 or older custom and commercial chassis rigs with 4 doors or 3 doors, as some FD's opted for having a rear door on the curb side only.  One more thing, we all know that FDNY began purchasing 4 door Mack CF's in 1971 and that many of these rigs went on to other FD's, so I don't feel it is necessary to post them all again in this thread, however, if you have a shot of one that never served FDNY, go right ahead and add it.

I'll begin with this 1950 Ahrens-Fox HC 1000/350 that originally served the Friendship Fire Company of Royersford, PA.  It was later sold to Soddy Daisy, TN and is currently undergoing a complete restoration after many years of service there.  "Beulah", as she is known, will continue to serve as a PR apparatus for many years to come.

Make Pumps 8 - Hard Days Night Hotel, Liverpool, UK (14/02/13)
Posted by: Guest - 03-03-2013, 02:31 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (33)

Hi Guys,

Sorry for the late posting with this one, I have recently upgraded computers and tried to get to grips with Windows 8.

Anyhow..........

14th February 2013 - I went home from work early as I had 'man flu', and actually stood at the bus stop on the opposite corner from where the fire happened - little did I know what was going to happen in a few hours!

The Hard Days Night Hotel is a Beatles-themed hotel in North John Street, Liverpool. It is situated Central Buildings, a Victorian five-storey building dating from 1884. It is extremely popular with tourists from around the world, particularly as it is literally yards away from the famous Cavern Club.

The fire broke out on a fifth floor penthouse suite which workmen had been operating in that same morning.

In the UK we have a thing called a Pre-Determined-Attendance (PDA) which is what our dispatch have previously decided should respond initially, in this case it was two pumps (engines).

Ultimately, a request was made for eight pumps, along with a aerial platform, Incident Management Unit (Forward Command) and a BA Support Unit (it recharges SCBA sets).

The main body of fire was knocked down pretty quickly, however extensive overhauling operations were required due to the difficult access and hidden roof voids. This required a large number of BA wearers and the use of the aerial platform.

When I finally returned it was pretty much all over except the overhauling, this was my first picture.

Buddhist Temple Fire in Portland 3-2-13
Posted by: Guest - 03-03-2013, 01:33 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (3)

At 1210 a box assignment was dispatched for a house fire at 13715 SE Mall St. The response was E29, E7, E31 E11, T7, C3 and C4. A second caller said the fire was in the Kinh Xangocchau Buddhist temple so a second truck, Truck 25, was added to the assignment.

On arrival, E29 reported heavy fire in the rear of the building. They led off with their pre-connected 2-1/2" line and made a fast knockdown of the fully involved rear porch. E7 laid two lines from a hydrant at the corner of 136th Ave. and Mall St. while Truck 7 made an aggressive interior attack, pulling ceilings and stopping the fire that was extending into the main part of the building.

Minor Car Fire On My Street, Aurora CO 3/2/13
Posted by: Guest - 03-02-2013, 08:56 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (8)

This afternoon I was sitting in my living room and heard my first due engine go responding on the radio (some how I missed the tone).  Dispatch said there was black smoke and flames showing from a car but didn't repeat the location.  Just to be safe and not miss anyting close I looked out the window and bingo, a cloud of smoke outside.  By the time I got shoes and my camera out of my truck, a neighbor had already knocked most of the fire with a green line...
