While on my way home yesterday, I noticed loom up of heavy black smoke in front of the Boston skyline. I turned off my audiobook and turned on the radios to hear Engine 7 going off with fire showing from a 40 story building under construction. I headed that way, but it was rush hour and the fire was actually construction debris in the alley behind the building. Did get some decent shots though.
I had hoped that many of the talented photographers that were at the scene would have shared their images, but it seems that this site is becoming more and more of an insignificance on the internet. I have seen photos on social media from at least 4 photographers that are/were members of Firepics.
Just after 1500 on Friday March 15, 2019, box 6243 was struck for the roof of the New England Casket company, located at 1141 Bennington St. in the East Boston section of the city. First arriving companies found fire showing from the roof of the almost block long structure and were quickly ordered off of the truss roof. the interior companies were ordered out shortly thereafter. The fire went to 9 alarms (the highest on the Boston running card) with many special calls, including 7 engines above the 9th alarm for brand patrol in the adjacent neighborhood. Due to the toxicity of the smoke, a reverse 9-1-1 call was initiated to advise those in the area to evacuate. It was a long afternoon for the BFD/BEMS/BPD as well as the many mutual aid companies that responded to help.
This is the only photo I was able to get. It was during a very brief downtime during a torrential downpour that passed very quickly through the area.
In an effort to reinvigorate interest in the Line Art threads, I have been working on a fictional fire department's "history", as I could imagine it growing. The department is the Wellington Fire Department, based in the fictional Adanac County, somewhere in Canada. The "history" follows the growth from a small village volunteer department, to a small to mid size career department. Based loosely on the rapid growth of many cities in Canada, who have grown incredibly fast over the last 50 years, I hope to have captured in a realistic time frame, the development of the Wellington Fire Department.
Over a number of years I have copied and or modified many excellent original artworks from so many different and talented artists, as well as creating many of my own original works. Unfortunately, in my earlier days I neglected to capture some of the original artists names, and for this I sincerely apologize. I have been going through several older posts to try to determine some of the original artists where possible. Please advise if you see any of your original artwork so that I may add that information to my files, and provide proper credit where it is due. All fire stations are my original artwork with one exception that I modified from another website.
Wellington Fire Department is started in 1926 in the small Village of Wellington, where a small number of locals decide to form a volunteer fire department, after a serious fire in the village. The fire station is a small single bay station constructed at the east end of the village.
First arriving units found a two story single family dwelling that was being renovated fully involved that spread into the attic of a neighboring residence.
Another Question I had is what is the best setting on a digital camera to shoot Fire Apparatus with in bright sunlight, is it best to use automatic or another setting, willing to try something new as I get ready start another season of fire apparatus shooting.
I have a Nikon D40 I have had the camera for 12 Years nothing at all wrong with it just possibly looking to upgrade my camera, probably to another Nikon and I was wondering which is best, looking for a camera that can take HD video and the camera would only be used to shoot fire apparatus for my website.
Ones that I was looking at was a Nikon D3500 or Nikon D7200
Also will my external flash still work on the new camera, or if I go with just the body will my lense work which is a 70-300 VR.
The Sutphen dealer in Florida now sells KME also. I don't really care except when asked the dealer commented that there are car dealerships that sell multiple brands. I don't know about any of you but I want a dealer that believes in their products and can tell me why I should spend my 1.25 million for their aerial. I don't want to go to the Chevrolet dealer and have Ron sell me a truck that is actually from their GMC dealer because they didn't have the Chevy in red. It doesn't matter what brand you like or prefer, you and your people should believe in the manufacturer and be willing to stand up and "sell" our the benefits of your product line. All this seems like is hey I just want your money and I will sell you anything I can to get your money. Not to mention how to you in good faith bid on an open contract? You can't bid both, I know our city wouldn't allow it, leaves way too much room for collusion and price fixing. Am I wrong about this?
