  Front mounted pumpers
Posted by: Big Dave - 09-03-2018, 08:29 AM - Forum: Apparatus Photos - Replies (14)

as per the request, here are a few Canadian examples of front mounted pumpers.  As mentioned, very few front mounted pumpers are being built at this time at least by Canadian manufacturers.
In the Municipal District of Willow Creek, Stavely, Alberta operated this 1983 Superior/Ford F700  625/800

Hey Gang,

As we're fast approaching IFBA 2018 - I am curious as to who (if anyone on here) is planning to attend?

Perhaps we could get together on some off time (Sunday a.m., Thursday), and do some extra buffing.

Hope there's a few folks in attendance on here.

  New Website! Alt Radio Forums

Complaining without posing a solution is called whining
             -popularly attributed to Theodore Roosevelt

I'm sure you have seen my rant about how another board is run.  While I have no idea about whether or not it will work, as the largest of the sites is a Goliath, I have developed Alt Radio as a solution to the problem I am seeing.  It is still being developed, but I welcome the members and visitors of Firepics that also have an interest in radios to visit the site and give feedback if you like.

The basic premise is the same as Firepics where the mantra "he who moderates least, moderates best" is applied to the posts.  Threads will be allowed to "wander", as unique and unexpected benefits can be gained.

  2nd Alarm-Providence, RI-651 Admiral St-8/5/18
Posted by: edburke - 08-05-2018, 08:44 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (2)

Providence Fire hit a quick second alarm for a fire on the third floor of a storefront church early Sunday evening.  The second alarm was pretty much for relief, as the temperature was in the high eighties with high humidity.  This was also the second fire of the day for a lot of these guys.  It was knocked down quickly and put under control as I was parking, so the shots aren't that dramatic.

  Apparatus Positioning
Posted by: grubber33270 - 07-31-2018, 12:13 AM - Forum: Q & A - Replies (1)

This could either go here or rant & rave section but i figured here would be better for now.

When you go to a department and ask to have apparatus pulled outside to a specific area for the best quality photos. for one reason or another they refuse and just pull it out of the apron a little bit straight out or the A** still in the station.

What do you do? do you try and come back on a different shift working? forget about the department and just move on?

What is the best way to get good photos of the said apparatus?

I have run into this a few times and I have gone a few different routes with the photos. usually I still take a photo then when I get home if it is as awful as I think it is I delete it.

Building Fire with tankers galore-300 Kingstown Rd Hope Valley RI-7/29/18
Posted by: edburke - 07-29-2018, 04:42 PM - Forum: Fire Scene Photos - Replies (12)

Around 0830 on 7/29/18, I received a page that Hope Valley, RI was working an outside fire with extension to a building.  I figured it was small brush and nothing more.  Since it's about 40 miles from the house, I didn't think it would be worth the ride.  As the morning went on, more and more tankers were being special called and I finally decided to take it in at about 1130.

For a city boy like me, tanker shuttles, especially of this magnitude, are foreign to me.

The fire was in the Meadowbrook-Waldorf School, a large 1 and 2 story wood frame building approximately 400 X 100.  I arrived aboout 4 hours into the job.  Companies had been pulled out early due to collapse conditions inside.

  UST plant closing
Posted by: npfd801 - 07-27-2018, 12:22 AM - Forum: Manufacturer Scuttlebut - Replies (3)

US Tanker, now UST, is ceasing to exist as we know it.  The Wisconsin facility where they built rigs is closing and all operations are being moved to another facility of their parent company.

Kind of sad, there were some good people at UST.
