I'm looking for ideas and input. Anything that you would like to see on the site?
I am currently trying to figure out a way to bring the Apparatus, Station Location and Department Roster databases over to the new format-Invision has made it difficult, but I found the data in the sql database and am working on extracting it. Before I get too far into it, I'd like some feedback on whether or not it would be considered useful.
As I was finishing up in the office this morning, companies went off with an outside fire extended to a garage and asked for the box. Quick knockdown, no extension to exposures. It was on the way home, so I grabbed a few cell phone shots.
So far, the new version of Firepics has been working quite well. Hats off to Ed for all his efforts. One thing has come to my attention, however, and I'm wondering if there is a solution. When creating a post or reply to a post, the "thread subscription" defaults to "Subscribe and receive email...." on each and every post. In turn, this keeps cluttering up my email with items I don't want or need. Even when I click on the "Do not subscribe....", but then upload a pic, it defaults back to "Subscribe and receive email....". I don't always remember to click the "Do not subscribe...." again.
Is there a way, perhaps through my profile/account section, that I could "opt out" of receiving email notifications completely? I visit the site every day, seeing everything that is new, and have no need of duplicating such things in my email.

I'm working on integrations for the site. One thing that has occurred since Firepics went live in September of 2004 is the explosive presence that social media has established. Many members have left to simply share their photos exclusively via social media and Firepics has obviously suffered because of that.
I am working on a simple way for people to share with Firepics via social media. The first of those enhancements to the site was the addition of a Facebook Logon/Registration. New members can register on the site with one click that imports their Facebook information and registers them as a user on the site. I have also set up pages on Facebook and Twitter that automatically share any new posts in the Photos Section with a link back to that post.
In keeping with the above theme, I have set up a new area in the Photos section called "Hashtagged Posts." I am working on scripts that will pull from the "big 3" (Facebook, Twitter and Instagram) whenever someone uses the hashtag #FirepicsOnline which will hopefully get people sharing by making it easier for them to just post in one place and have their work shared here. Of course, the difficult part here is getting the hashtag out there, which is why I'm making this post. I need people to start using the hashtag to get visibility.
Please, if you post a fire related photo on social media, please use the hashtag
On Thursday March 22, 2018 3 members of the fire service were killed in the line of duty in 2 separate incidents.
York City (PA): Firefighters Ivan Flanscha (50) a 20yr veteran & Zachary Anthony (29) a 7yr vet were killed while operating at a fire in a former piano factory in the process of being converted to apartments when a large portion of the building collapsed.
FDNY: Firefighter Michael R. Davidson (37) was a 15yr veteran of the department, assigned to Engine Company 69 in Harlem. His father is a retired member who also served in that house & his brother is currently assigned to Engine Company 88 in the Bronx. He was killed while operating at a 5 Alarm fire at 773 St. Nicholas Ave in Harlem. He was the nozzleman on 69, operating in the basement when he became separated from his company as they were forced to evacuate due to rapidly deteriorating conditions. A Mayday was transmitted & he was removed from the building and rushed to Harlem Hospital where he was pronounced dead. He leaves behind a wife & 4 children.
Power had been out in this area for a few hours the resident of the house had gone out and left a candle going and that is what started the fire. Chesterfield, Petersburg and Hopewell assisted in putting the fire out
This is what is rumored to be the new IFD color scheme. Ladder 19 was delivered about 3 weeks ago, and made it's public debut in the St. Patrick's Day Parade last Friday. This is an IFD pic from their twitter page, and was also posted to the IFD facebook page.
