East St. Louis Classic Photos - Guest - 12-18-2011 Well, judging by the 2 East Boogie threads that are up now, it looks like there is quite a bit of interest in the lovely town. So here a a few pics out of my collection. The first shot is a spectacular fire at the Ben Gutman Truck Service facility. East St. Louis was a huge industrial town in the day which made for many great fires. Photo from the David J. Dubowski Photo Collection. Unknown Photographer and Date East St. Louis Classic Photos - Guest - 12-18-2011 Next is a fire in a 3 story brick. Seen in the photo is East St. Louis Truck 4 which was a 1962 International VCO/ALF 65'. Photo from the David J. If you're traveling down I-64 through East Boogie you can still see a a large white concrete building just east of 25th street. Thats all thats left of this bldg some 35 years later. And it'll be there another 35 years I'm sure. John Labusier took this shot in May of 1976. East St. Louis Classic Photos - Guest - 12-18-2011 Good stuff East St. Louis Classic Photos - Guest - 12-18-2011 The Sept.1980 issue of Firehouse Mag has an ad from the City of E.ST.L about the sale of 8 used fire trucks, only other info was;" repair needed". Wonder if the sale included many of the classics in the previous pics? East St. Louis Classic Photos - Truckman - 12-18-2011 Great old photos, Dave! The first photo is of my first fire ever in ESTL. The ex-Modern Asphalt Company warehouse fully involved in December of 1986 some 25 years ago. East St. Louis Classic Photos - Guest - 12-23-2011 Next is a shot of several buildings burning on November 15, 1987. We caught this as we were returning from a trip riding with E-112 and Tower 21 in Chicago. I remember the locals being very pissed with the FD that day as the fire kept spreading down the block. |
