State Forest Fire agencies - Aaronw - 07-06-2011

Every state has an agency dedicated to management of forest fires on state lands. Some like California's Calfire are large fire departments in their own right with a large fleet of firefighting equipment, others are primarily administrative providing training, equipment and fire ground support (overhead, logistics etc), most fall somewhere in between.

CDF / Calfire has a thread of its own, photos of calfire apparatus is welcome for completeness, but lets not turn this into a Calfire part 2 thread.

Local agencies that are a large component in the states forestry resources are also welcome.

In California this would include the contract counties such as Marin, Kern and LA Counties that protect state lands under contract with the state. Many of these are large departments with their own threads so like Calfire lets not create a huge duplication, but they have do have a place in this thread.

In many states, the local agencies provide the bulk of the states resources. Equipment is often provided to local departments under an agreement that in return the department will respond to fires on state land. This equipment is very much welcome.

The Federal agencies (US Forest Service, National Park Service, Bureau of Land Management, Bureau of Indian Affairs, US Fish & Wildlife) are big enough to support threads of their own, so lets focus on the state stuff, but if they have a direct tie (such as an interagency module) they are welcome.

[size="4"] Here are some representatives from the Centennial State...

Colorado State Forest Service (CSFS) has traditionally taken retired military 6x6's (AM General, Kaiser), outfitted them with pumps and tanks, then assigned them to Fire Dept's around Colorado.

Newer CSFS vehicles are much more modern brush trucks, manufactured on IHC 4x4 chassis (4700's, etc...) with CAFS. However, I don't think I have a photo of one in my collection.
