In 1981, Ford donated this pumper to the Mount Vernon Ladies Association, the entity that still runs Mount Vernon Estate, In Virginia. Mount Vernon Estate is the homestead of George Washington, the Father of Our Country! The donation was made by Ford's then-CEO, Phillip Caldwell and his wife, who happened to be a member of Mount Vernon Estate's Board of Regents. The connection between the Ford Motor Company and Mount Vernon Estate actually began back in 1923, when Henry Ford himself donated a brand new specially-built fire engine for the Estate. This pumper faithfully protected the Estate from 1981 until 2007. Since then, it was been sitting out of service on Estate property until November of this year, when my son and I saved it from being scrapped.
