Where's the wooden front bumper? Saw them change it out in the staging area before the 2007 convention, never saw anything like it before.

I had heard they were supposed to be replacing that truck. I'm guessing it never happened?

I heard the same thing but as of right now I don't think they are acting on it right just yet. I'm very friendly with the guys from Plantsville and I'm one of thier "Convention Tea Party" cronnies! LOL I'll see if I can muster up some info.

The wooden bumpers and such are only put on for parades. Unfortunately, ET-22 is off the parade circut as of 2010 due to the truck's age. This is an active front line piece and despite the pride for placing it into parades, the members have always made sure this was a working truck from the get go (and the reason why its one many awards).

Hartford is the only one left in the state. I believe milford closed a firehouse and made a two company station, therefore losing their ISO Class 1

Milford lost their Class 1 last year sometime after its re-evaluation and are working to get it back. They are still running Engine 5 (Woodmont) and Engine 6 (Point Beach) out of separate firehouses for the time being. This is because there has been delays with the completion of the new firehouse up on New Haven Avenue. The construction of the new firehouse will provide better coverage to the northern areas of the east end especially north of the borough of Woodmont where there were some coverage and travel issues (one of the supposed reasons why they lost the Class 1 rating).

Prior to the Class one rating, they combined Engine 3 (Walnut Beach) and Engine 4 (Devon) from two separate firehouse into "Station 8" on Naugatuck Avenue on the city's west side. This is the station I believe that you are referring to.

AND ALSO - The Connecticut State Firefighters Association Convention was held this past weekend and I got some information that Southington Engine Tanker 22 (Plantsville) may be making a return tot he parade circuit next year!

Here's a shot of the rig from 1994 after Woodstock purchased it, where it is in its original condition. It was originally a 2500 gallon water tank.
