I saw Malden's new Engine 2 this past Saturday. It looks nice. It's in service. I got a couple of shots of it, but the rear of the truck was way too dark. So I'll have to get a better one soon.

Prior to the new Pierce, did Malden have any spare engines left on the roster? I'm assuming E2's Chelsea hand me down will now become a spare.

I did see Lynnfield's Engine 5 parked behind the new engine.

We had Lynn E-10 for a couple of years as a spare, then a Melrose spare, then a Lynnfield spare and then no spare and just recently in the past few weeks as the "old E-2" (Pierce) **** the bed we rode up to Wakefield and borrowed a Seagrave spare for a few days and then E-1( Pierce) **** the bed and we went up to Stoneham and borrowed a spare so we ran two Malden Engines and a Wakefield Engine and a Stoneham Engine and before it was ready to go in Service we put the new Pierce for E-2 in service as Wakefield needed theirs back and the M-1 fixed E-1 so we sent Stoneham's back as for the "old E-2" it is being worked on after the radiator and fuel lines **** the bed and the Lynnfield fuel tank has been repaired and that for now is our spare...at least until the"old E-2" is repaired......follow me....good... cause the way things are going we'll be looking for a few good horses to pull the next broken down Pierce... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/usa.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Usa' />

For those unaware this can be called a city service ladder truck now...from my understanding the aerial has been found unsafe and they have been using this from time to time with ground ladders only when the tower is out of service. Recently they began using the spare Lawrence ladder instead so they have a working aerial while the tower is having repairs done.

I've always found it odd that this truck is a 1987, but the tiller seat is not enclosed. I thought that went out of style way before 87'.

Not in Haverhill! They're still using 3" for supply. I love hearing "give me a double feeder" at a Haverhill fire. LDH is "too heavy" to use.

Both of these HFD ladders are currently out of service, they're using Lawrence's spare Ladder 4 E\-One.

A phone call to the registrar confirms that Haverhill FD has a blanket permit authorized by the Haverhill police chief and issued by the registrar for all fire department vehicles to display blue flashing, rotating or oscillating lights in the direction of travel, in accordance with MGL Chapter 90 Section 7E. Please do not make accusatory statements without proof on this board.

Massachusetts Fire Apparatus - edburke - 10-31-2007

As an aside, Haverhill PD also has a similar permit to display red lights in the travel direction.
