Not so much so. Just wishful thinking. That thing looks to be in such good shape that it'll be able to serve a deprtment as a frontline engine for years to come.

Nice Coolie but little on this planet will ever ever beat the Brockway/Providence; she was a BEAST of a rescue. I would have paid money to ride that rig back in the day! And if you know anybody who can scare up the specs on that old Greyhound, please let me know. Photo from the collection of Angelo (Pat) Patterson and used with permission.

I was fortunate enough to ride in her on many occasions. Took her last call at AVFD and got to ride the officers seat when she left AVFD for the final time with the house siren blowing in tribute. That was the most distinctive, deep rumbling jake brake I ever heard.

A couple of us used to ride in the back "New York Style" as we liked to call it. With the doors wide open and standing at the back door looking cool. Not very safe but we looked good going through traffic. Until the day our maintenance guy finally fixed the "rear door open" light up front. Than light ratted us out and that was the end of "New York style".

As for the specs I can tell you she was a '69 Brockway 359 with a '71 Providence body. It went in service at AVFD on October 3, 1971 at 1430 hrs. As far as a serial number, I wasn't that forward thinking back then.

It was refurbed in 1984 by Mt. Aetna. That is when it went from red to the white over yellow scheme.

Thanks for sharing!

Chuck Morris relayed the info to me that the manufacture date on the chassis of the Brockway was 12-69.

The new squad 354 is due to be delivered next week.

This is the first Squad (354) A 1947 International Harvester Panel Truck. Was running around as an antique till the 1980's and then dropped out of circulation. Anyone know what happened to it??
