The treat at this station was thier other tanker, it is the only tandem axle, ellipitcal tanker Maxim ever made. Sadly they just purchased a third ambulance so they have no where to store this piece, so it sits outside and is out of service (I wanted to weep when I was told this). This piece and the 1981 International/Continental will be going up for sale in about a year (Wouldn't this look GREAT in your driveway Howie?!! LOL). So without further adue.... I present the crown jewel of my trip!!

CFC stood for "Combination Fire Company". According to the book "Services Not Required" by John Calderone, In 1974, "The CFC's were established to combine the operations of two separate units, an engine and ladder company, under the command of one officer, thereby saving the salary of an officer in each house combined. The official mission statement established that one officer would achieve better coordinated fire attack and that these combined units would develop complete firefighters proficient in both engine and ladder work".

"On July 13, 1974, CFC 151 replaced Engine 311 and Ladder 158 in the Springfield Gardens section of Queens". "CFC 151 lasted until Nov. 12, 1977 , when they were closed and the original units they replaced were reorganized. In the end, saving the salary of one officer per tour was not cost effective when compared to the operational limitations imposed by combining units."

Norwood Fire Dept's new squad, a Chevy 3500 HD 4x4 w/ plow, spray on bedliner, and LED lighting package, delivered on 12/3/07. It is not in service yet, and it needs to be lettered. I believe there are plans for an small skid mount pump to be added to this vehicle as well.

I did some searching, and the best info I found was on nyfd.com. On July 13, 1974, Engine 311 and Tower Ladder 158 were disbanded to form Combination Fire Company 151. My educated guess would be that this was a cross-manning experiment, since firefighters came off The Rock as either laddermen or enginemen at the time. Both companies were reorganized to their former status on November 12, 1977.
