Palm Beach County, FL Fire-Rescue's 2005 Freightliner M2/Medic-Master. Here in these parts, "ambulances" refers to the private, nonunion, low paid ambulance companies. The rigs operated by the fire departments and staffed with well paid, union, well trained folk are usually called "Rescues". This one here is Rescue 68 and serves the Town of Lake Park.

Why's this unit labeled both 408 and 802? I know that Fairfax uses the 8 designation (in place of their primary COG number of 4), but I'm not entirely clear on when & why. Can anyone explain, please?

Thanks!

If I am not mistaken if I recall correctly 408 would be the unit designation and the 802 would be the station apparatus number. take note of the 2nd number on EMS Unit number 422

Chris is right. Also, regarding the occasional use of the 8 series numbers on the air, that is being discontinued due to another jurisdiction coming on line. FFX used to use the 8 series for certain volunteer pieces.
