Last one is the brush truck. Manakin also runs two ambulances, but I did not photograph either. A lowboy had backed in behind me to load a bobcat, and I didn't realize I had chopped off the front bumper.

Augusta County FS 10 has a new Squad 10 in service. It is a 2008 ALF Eagle that provides HAZMAT, technical rescue, vehicle rescue, and other squad duties. It replaces both a HAZMAT truck (1980 Ford/Hackney) and medium size squad (1987 International/Swab).

I was able to get a few photos of apparatus at the Old Dominion Historical Fire Society meeting in Waynesboro, Virginia this past Saturday.

Thanks to Tom Shand for the info. I know the FD purchased this back (not sure if they purchased it from a collector or another FD).

Any additional info is appreciated.

FD will restore as they get funds.

Here is a FD I have wanted to get to for a long time.

Orkney Springs is located in Shenandoah County not to far from the West Virginia state line.

Several years ago, the FD and rescue squad were seperate organizations. They have since joined together and the department is buidling a brand new station next to the old rescue squad buidling. In the meantime, the old rescue squad trucks are housed at the old rescue squad building and the fire trucks are at the current fire station down the road.

My favorite at Orkney Springs is this unusual truck....

A 2009 Spartan Gladiator/Smeal 1500/750 is on order and should be in towards the end of the year.

Good photos Mike. We must have missed each other at Waynesboro this year.

Don't see to many trucks around with the 50' ladder. Orkney Springs hopes to purchase a used quint in the near future.

A couple of the old rescue squad vehicles...

note how the mural goes from the Ford cab to the utility body - a bit unusual.

The department runs two similiar ambulances.

18-2 (posted here) is a 2000 Ford E350/Horton. They also have a 1995 Ford E350/Excellance as 18-1.

In addition, the department owns a 1972 Ford C/ALF 750/500 red in color that was OOS and would not start. The plans are to keep it as a parade piece.

Last for this segment, and this might surprise those who know the apparatus at Mount Jackson.

This is their brand new 21-2, a 2009 Internationl 4300/Horton. Interesting colors, considering the department (fire and EMS are now combined) now runs a variety of apparatus with red, yellow/white, and green/white.

Not long ago, the department purchased a 1989 Pierce engine from Prince Frederick, Maryland painted red and white. It is now at the Singer shop in Roanoke getting some body work done and rehabed. And yes, it is suppose to return in the new department colors of green and black. That should be interesting.

Mike,

I don't know for sure, but the Grottoes antique may have been owned by Rusty Davis, a past Grottoes member, collector, and member of the ODHFS.

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 09-24-2009

The green and black looks sweet. I can't wait to see the Pierce they bought from Prince Frederick in these colors!

Mike,

Nice Dodge M37, I was out driving mine today. Sorry I didn't get to meet you in Waynesboro.
