Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - stokess - 09-27-2009

I'll answer the questions in one post - sorry I've been on the road for work and leaving again in a few hours - then they'll let me stay put for a few weeks <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

E413A (Yes there is an A, its just not spoken, contrary to some opinion) is currently the 2003/2006 ALF. The 2009 PUC will become E413A and the ALF will become E413B at that time. The current E413B is a 1994 E\-One Protector that the County has been letting us use because our 1993 Pierce Arrow blew the motor two years ago. We agreed to buy a new rig instead of fixing the Arrow if they give us a red piece to use while we were working the process. It's worked out for everyone.

The picture Steve posted is kinda rare - the rig was only complete in that configuration with that body for a little over 2 years. It's gotten a new body on it now, new lightbars (as a matter of fact those are the bars that went onto the Arrow and are now on the E\-One E413B), etc. It's a very different truck today, if only still the wrong color. And yes the light box was an experiment. I've had it come up behind me and it does work - but it's not the prettiest thing out there. I'll just be glad when it's E413B - then it can live the slow comfortable life it needs.

(This girl was built before LED Roto-Rays were available. In an effort to use as much LED lighting as possible, this department had ALF design what I call an "ALF-O-Ray." It consists of four 6x4" Whelen LEDs, mounted in the box just below the windshield, that flash in a rotating pattern. I don't think it's as effective as a real Roto-Ray, but it sure is bright!)

Mike,

Did you happen to get a picture of the other apparatus from Mount Jackson. I heard that they had a pretty nice CF that they were looking to get rid of in the near future.

That is a pretty cool color scheme.

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 09-28-2009

Back on August 31st I posted the engine and tanker from Port Royal VFD in Caroline County. I went back this past Sunday and got a picture of their new utility truck. It was purchased already painted red from Battlefield Ford in Manassas. Except for mounting the winch and warning lights, most of the other work is being done in house.

This color scheme reminds me of Tuchahoe VRS in the Richmond area, very similar and I think their squad truck is also 21. As for the new black over green...................................

Yesterday Fire175, Roto-Ray, firemag & myself ventured to Mecklenburg and Brunswick Counties. We made stops at South Hill & Lake Gaston in Mecklenburg, then Ebony, Gasburg and Broadnax in Brunswick. We were planning to head over to Clarksville, but the clouds had really moved in and the drive from Broadnax to Clarksville was about an hour so we decided to head home. I'm going to start by posting the Lake Gaston rigs. I posted this first pumper on the Pirsch thread but wanted to post here with the rest of the Lake Gaston units too.

This is not something you would expect to find at a rural fire department.
