Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - photone - 10-31-2009

Spotted this Seagrave TDA sitt9ing in a fenced lot just off of Military Highway, near US 17.

From what I was told, It was an emergency purchase to replace an older rig that was out of service due to fatal mechanical issues, and was replaced by the Quantum that's now Truck 12.

Anyone recognize it? <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/wink.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Wink' />

Thank ya John...Knew you'd probably be right on top of these, with this being your stomping grounds! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/biggrin.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Big Grin' />

Got the north end of Chesapeake last week...hopefully I'll be able to get the south end sometime over the next week or so, time, weather, etc permitting! Found old Stations 3, 5, and 9. Do you know if any of the other old Chesapeake stations are still standing?

Rob and John,

Bought new for Richmond Truck 6. When the first Quint came in, HME-Ferarra-LTI, which was assigned to the 14's. The Seagrave Truck was relocated to Truck 9 and the 1982 Maxim went into reserve at the 23's.

This truck was sold to Chesapeake FD.

Former Truck's 2 and 5 that were bought by the DCFD.

Former RFD Truck-2, eventually found its way over to Leesburg, VA. Unknown where old Truck 5 went from DCFD.

Former Truck 7 was bought by Bedford, VA FD and later sold to the Cornelius, NC Fire Dept.

This is the newest squad with German Red striping. The old 35mm film could not reproduce the color when developed, but those who saw this truck in person can tell you how good it looked. Unfortunately exposure to the sun for extended periods takes a toll causing rather severe fading.

I remember this rig during my first Apple Blossum in '03 just after she was delivered. Beautiful rig and I'm still to this day kicking myself for not having my camera with me. So many killer rigs that day......chris.

The other Foam trailer is at Station 1.

Those are 275 gallon totes in the picture of Foam 2. That would make the capacity 825 gallons, unless there is additional storage not obvious from the picture. We've got a very similar trailer with 2 totes and therefore a foam capacity of 550 gallons.

Each tote holds 300 gallons=900 gallons.

The refinery that I work at has the same totes, definately the way to go. The 55 gal drums and 5gal pails are a thing of the past.

You can link them together (just like water portable tanks) and even use a small lawn mower size engine portable pump and supply foam concentrate to make over 2000gpm solution (1/3%)= 20/60gpm

You can use a foklift and pickup to move them, no need for expensive equipment

Update on the 2009 Pierce PUC Engine 103 for Buena Vista VFD (Rockbridge Co). On the website (http://bvfd10.com) there are 2 photo's of it finished at the factory. I was told today by the chief that if things go as planned and all the bugs are worked out, it will be on the road and should arrive friday.

She is a sweet looking unit and i'll have photos of it as soon as she arrives.

From what I have seen it is a very nice rig, well spec'd and laid out. I won't be able to get any shots until next spring when I am back in NOVA. My quick trip in December is going to be dedidated to shooting a new Arlington pumper or two.

Do you think you could grab an officer side, rear, and front shot as well as DS?

Kris, do you know which service center will take delivery of the new PUC - Roanoke or Charlottesville?

Boyce, Virginia (located in Clarke County) is near Berryville and just outside of Winchester.

They just put the finishing touches on their "new" Squad 4 which they purchased from Goshen, PA (Chester County). It is a 1997 Simon-Duplex/Saulsbury with a 250/250 and Saulsbury s/n 295141.

Here is what the Simon-Duplex/Saulsbury replaced at Boyce.

Old Squad 4 was a 1983 Ford F700 built by EVF. It originally was placed into service by Falmouth, Virginia in Stafford County. From Falmouth it went to the Round Hill VFD in Frederick County. From Round Hill to Boyce.

Boyce recently sold the Ford F squad to a FD in Transylvania County, North Carolina.

Mike,

I believe the Little River VFD in Transylvania County was the dept that bought this truck.
