Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 11-13-2009 The Buena Vista Pierce looks great and thought out. Do the side arrow sticks activate with the master control or are they separate? Are they on when the unit is responding? I know theirs a Pierce for E623 in the works?
I saw the new E623 going to work two days ago on route 7 (along with A616 of all units) and I suspect she will be in service soon. chris. May be the last time those two units ever see each other. New Station 609 may be sprouting up soon
They were east of the rock when I saw them. More specific they were east of Ashburn Village Blvd. Either way, the new engine for 23 looks functional like the units prior via the county minus the "white elephant" and yes, might be the only time I'll see two units from the extreme ends of the county together at 07-ish hrs. I'm stoked to see her running around my neck of the woods soon. Update: a616 was in route to Singers.... chris. I seem to recall Mike Sanders once telling me that Falls Church was originally part of Fairfax County. If that is true, how did it become part of the Arlington County FD?
Thanks!According to a 1973 ACFD yearbook that contains a history by Frank Higgins; Falls Church VFD was organized in 1923 as part of Arlington Co. The firehouse was almost on the Falls Church City/Arlington Co. line. There is a reference in a response survey that Falls Church was aligned operationally with Fairfax prior to 1968.I hope Mike or someone with better knowledge about this is out there! The city population was 11,169 in 2008, up from 10,377 in 2000.[3] Taking its name from The Falls Church, an eighteenth-century Anglican parish, Falls Church gained township status within Fairfax County in 1875. In 1948, it was incorporated as the City of Falls Church, an independent city with county-level governance status.[4] It is also referred to as Falls Church City. A broader area around the city has long been considered part of Falls Church, though these areas were not incorporated as part of the current city. These include Seven Corners and other portions of the current Falls Church postal districts of Fairfax County and the area of Arlington County known as East Falls Church, which was part of the town of Falls Church from 1875 to 1936.[5] For statistical purposes, the Bureau of Economic Analysis combines the City of Falls Church with Fairfax City and Fairfax County. GREAT pics Warren. As a kid I remember seeing 76 running a 2-piece Engine Company in the 80's (both Hahn rigs). Man, were they LOUD. VFN102 - Fairfax County did originally designate Falls Church VFD as "Company 6" within the county system (and 7 as the academy). Not sure when the shift occurred that put them in Arlington's system. Please keep the old pics coming! Thanks again. What was neat to watch was the ladder truck backing into the "old" station across all four lanes of Lee Hwy. and into the lot across the street. The other "fun" thing to watch was the pumpers bouncing over the rail crossings on Lee Hwy. and Wilson Blvd. Paul Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 01-10-2010
Co. 7 was originally the radio designator for OWL in Prince WIlliam before the Academy was built in the early '60's.
