United States Forest Service - Aaronw - 04-20-2014 The fire chief said it was a '74, but a '68-69 makes a lot more sense. The Forest Service introduced prototype crew cab engines in '68-69 and they were coming online by 1970, so this must have been from the last batch of the older open bench seat engines. Eli, guessing later 90s Model 62 (early model 62s 1995-96 had the side discharge under the box, 97 or 98 they moved it up between the cab and the box where it is on this truck). Builder is probably Boise Mobile Equipment. Should be a Darley JMP-500 2 stage pump. The Model 62 is a region 5 spec, very unusual to see one in service with the USFS outside of California. Really odd seeing it all the way on the East Coast with the new National Standard lettering on the side. United States Forest Service - Monrovia1 - 07-03-2014 ANF Engine 22. They use smaller Ford F550 based buggies, each carrying up to 7 firefighters and gear in place of the more common 10 person buggies. United States Forest Service - Aaronw - 08-05-2014 Cherokee Hotshots Based out of the Cherokee National Forest in NE Tennessee, Cherokee IHC is one of only 4 hotshot crews in Region 8 (Southern Region). One of the key identification features of these engines is the flush mounted compartment doors. I've only encountered 2 or 3 and am not sure if they even completed the entire first batch ordered.
