Mack Fire Apparatus - keeney - 04-15-2007 Taneytown Fire Company No.1, MD 1968 Mack. This was the first 1000 gallon pumper in Carroll County and the last of the Mack's for TVFC to used before it was replaced by their current Engine 54 which is a 2002 Pierce Dash Pumper. Photo scanned by me and taken by Terry Dawson. What odd looking little fellas they are![/quote] Those lights are Mars "Aurora Borealis" lights. They consisted of ocillating, rather than rotating, lights. Very rare to see a colored dome on one! Or two on one rig! These lights, popular in Mars' Chicagoland area (especially the CFD) in the late 60's-early 70's, were pretty much eclipsed by the Federal TwinSonic lightbars and their competitor's products (Code 3, etc.). Chelsea, MA FD had one on their Chief's buggy back in the 1970's. If you see one on Ebay today, they're going for around $1000 in working condition.
