Hey Rich they are combining the ATR and Cave-In right? It only makes sense I would imagine. We were at the shop the other day getting T13 worked on and it was there. It looks well thought out with design it for sure a monster. Gotta love federal grant money.
Yes, both pieces' inventory will be carried on USAR 17 and then some. We (those of us who care to think about things) would like to get a small vehicle similar to the current ATR 17, or even an old ambulance to run as a "rope and water" unit. I guess we can live with a few Suburbans for a while. It's going to be interesting watching that thing get around some of the smaller "river roads". Nonetheless, it will be a nice unit. I've seen the work the committee did on designing the unit and its' layout--very impressive. Hungrybus asked about the smaller cab than what we showed him on the "spec" drawings. Several factors played into that. The turning radius to get into Station 17 (even though all the drivers planned on backing it in off Galloway) was a big thing. Original "plans" were for 2 bays for USAR 17 and the boats, utilities, etc. Building engineers said "No", it would require a sediment pond on site for storm water management. That tightened the turn. Now we'd need a shorter cab, instead of the 6-7 man cab as planned. Local politics had something to do with other selections. I don't know any more on that issue. Then there was a small thing about the grant money. It is ALL grant money, with none to spare from anywhere else. So, we'll chase it with a suburban until we can get something small.

If I can ask, gravenut74, give me your initials??? Thanks!!

Coolie-- footers have been poured, with a layer of ice and snow to help cool them off.

Doc-- thanks for those photos of Towson and Lutherville. I "grew up" visiting an uncle at Towson, and Truck 1 was a favorite. Yes, Lutherville is still all Volunteer, and doing quite well. Nice engines, I think a MACK MC, a Sutphen (?), and 1 other I can't recall. NICE heavy rescue squad--Mack MC with a 10 ton crane--sweeeet!!

That last photo looks like a "LOAD" test to me. The aerial looks like Owings Mills GROVE/LTI, judging from the bed ladder thickness. Probably a lifting demonstration, being that GROVE made cranes first. That's close to a 1000 pound load, eh?

The last pic is Owings Mills in the late 70s before they sent it out and had it rehabbed because the stick is still gray. it was rehabbed in 84 and painted white. I think it is in Timonium. I was one hanging from the stick

Boy if we tried something like that now adays we'd have our fingernails pulled out with pliars.

No gloves, no fall arrest gear, no helmets, and worst of all..... no safety glasses!!!

What must they have been thinking!!??

You can detect my sarcasm, right?

The Seagrave looks like it's the former Earleigh Heights, A.A Co. Md E-121.

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 03-20-2007

That's correct, that is Engine-121 from the Earliegh Heights VFC Co. 12 in Anne Arundel County.

It was a 1976 Seagrave 1250GPM/500GWT. It was one of the first engines that I ever rode way

back in the 70s when I started in the fire service there as a volunteer. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Fireman' />

Ok that makes sense I almost said it looked like an AACo patch, but wasn't a 100% After looking at picture harder it was not taken at the fairgrounds because you can clearly see what appears to be a school in background. Thanks for the response

its been quite awhile for me but i thought we were in a commercial bldg in timonium parking lot. We were basically showing off just like those days in ocean city with our little competition with what was then called green haven aa t14

Baltimore County MD - SLIPPERYSAM - 03-21-2007

Lutherville's Ford Squad looks great. Interesting to see they are still equipping their squad with a crane.

Baltimore County MD - Guest - 03-21-2007

They actually use it too. Ive been on a few rescues with their Mack they have now and it was special called for the crane.
