It's really too bad RISP doesn't update their cruiser image.

A few years back, the guy that does our graphics was commissioned by the Colonel of the RISP to create a "new look" for their cars. The concept was extremely handsome, retaining their signature battleship grey cars (RISP "Light Smoke Grey") with a reflective body striping package in black and red, lettering within the striping and their shoulder patch. It never came to be, as a new OIC took over and decided to retain the redundant scheme that says "State Police" no fewer than eight times on the body of the car (not counting the license plates). The only thing that was adopted was reflective striping on the f/r bumpers.

While I have nothing but respect for RISP troopers, their agency, their uniforms, etc., IMHO their cruisers are a real letdown. The scheme that our graphics guy created would have closely tied the cars and uniforms together, as the Mass State Police did starting in 1941 and continuing up to present day.

I've seen about 2 dozen PD's in RI running up to 3 different paint jobs on cruisers, if it aint broke dont fix it. I still see those chinsy "Nawth Providence" light grey State Vics with the double blue and white stripe out there. Nothing says tradition like the RISP paint job.

Thanks for the shot James, last time I saw one it was the other end of the stick.

Well, to a point, I agree. IIRC from my source materials, that color and multiple "State Police" markings all over the car body didn't start showing up until their 70's vintage 2-door Plymouths though. My personal feeling is they're a top drawer outfit that deserves an image on their sleds that befits the look of their troopers. Of course, it is much more affordable when outfitting a larger fleet to use adhesive lettering and a seal as opposed to a more expensive graphics package.
