I made a spur of the moment trip to Charles City County on Thursday. This is a very rural locality just east of Richmond International Airport. There are three fire stations in the county and I was fortunate to catch someone at the main building on Adkins Rd. Several of these units were lacking a builder plate, thus some missing information. Most of their apparatus is painted this dark blue color. Not sure why, but this first rig is lettered as an Engine rather than a Tanker.

it is labeled as engine 11 because it ran as first out engine from station 1 until the arrival of the sammler Inernational KME. Their "tanker" was/is a large 4000 gallon tanker with a 1000 GPM front mounted pump. it is housed at station 2

Thought I would add a few more photos from our Buckingham trip. The following are from the Glenmore station. First up is a tanker that previously saw service at Scottsville VFD in Albemarle County.

Here is another tanker that runs from the Glenmore station.....if I had only thought to take along a little tire shine! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/cool.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='B)' />

This is the only pumper at Glenmore, a nice functional truck.

In a previous post you'll see that Arvonia runs a mini pumper as their extrication piece. Glenmore responds a squad which looks somewhat like an ambulance. This ran previously as Clearbrook Squad 7 in Roanoke County. (thanks to firemag for supplying that tidbit of info!)

Final two units from Glenmore, both are brush trucks (or "plumbers trucks" as Mark Baker is fond of saying)

We could not find any type of builders plate either in the cab or on the body for Crash 11. I think Quigly just added the 4x4 ability. Does anyone know if Quigly makes ambulance bodies, or can you supply the box builder by looking at it in Paul's photo? Thanks.

Quigley only does 4x4 conversions. Not sure about the body, JP.

Strangely enough, I think I might know the history behind Crash 11. They didn't happen to say that Clearbrook bought it used did they? It looks an awful lot like Haywood County (NC) Rescue Squad's former "Rescue 3." The little logo between the front wheel and the driver's door really leads me to believe that might be it. I was told someone in Virginia bought it when they replaced it in 2005. Let me do a little digging around and I'll see if I can confirm this. Oh, and the body should be either a Chief's or a 3D if it is indeed the old Res3cue. And did you see any signs that the blue stripe might have been orange at one time?

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - firemag - 05-13-2010

Thanks Andrew. I'm afraid I can't be of much more help. I'm not sure when they got it. It was there in 2007 when I visited for photos. I have no clue on the orange stripe either. Anything you can find out will be appreciated. Jerry

I could be wrong, but I don't believe Clearbrook bought it used. It was in service as Squad 7 when I volunteered in Roanoke County in the mid 90's.

Nice rig.

Nate, do you still have any contacts at Clearbrook who would perhaps know the box manufacturer?

It looks like a Chief's Fire and Rescue body to me

Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Andrew2340 - 05-16-2010

It's either a Chief's F&R or a 3D body. Chief's was the 3D dealer for the WNC area and that I've found, Chief's didn't start making their own rescue boxes until the early 2000's. Every rescue badged as a Chief's from the 1990's has been a re-badged 3D rescue body.

Also, if that truck was in service in Roanoke County in the mid 1990's, it's definitely not HCRS's old Rescue 3. It would have been sold to whomever bought it in the 2005-2006 area. It was replaced by a 2005 Ford F-750/Chief's heavy rescue.

Sorry I am late on this one....things have been busy.

I went by Clearbrook awhile back, unfortunately I do not have the date. It was back when I was photographing in 3 1/2 x 5, but I am still not sure of the date. I also photographed a 1995 Pierce Dash (Wagon 7) and a 1983 Ford L9000/Grumman (Engine 7) while there.

I have this as a 1992 Ford F Super Duty/Chief's. I do not have any information if the squad came from another department prior to Clearbrook.

Thanks Mike, I will update my records to reflect "Chief's"
