A couple of recent photos from Loudoun County.

Round Hill Station 4 has one of the newer 2007 Pierce Dash engines. 1500/750/50. Loudoun County purchased three of these and have them in service at Round Hill, Lucketts (Station 10), and Neersville (Station 16).

Middleburg is Station 3 in Loudoun and they have recently returned to service two trucks that were rehabbed.

Engine 603 is a 1998 Pierce Saber that had a variety of work done from local companies. Bodywork, new paint/striping, etc. were included in the rehab. Middleburg apparatus use to be yellow - they are changing (and most of their apparatus are now painted) to white with stripes.

Also at Middleburg is the rehabbed Brush 603.

Originally a 2000 Ford F350 pick up style truck, it carried a lot of equipment and the FD found it to be heavy.

Keplinger in Winchester did the rehab work which included a flat style body and a smaller tank.

I just think this is one good looking tanker. I was in Leesburg for work recently and was able to photograph the new Tanker 601 in Leesburg.

There are plenty of boards out there with bashing of this and bashing of that...I'm hoping this one doesn't turn into something similar. (It did take a considerable amout of restraint, however!!)

Ian[/quote]

Without any bashing needed, is there a "policitally correct" response to why a Pierce tanker and not Seagrave? Inquiring minds would like to know, not any bashing or complaining to be done <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/smile.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Smile' />

Chris,

The biggest reason was the price; the Pierce bid was considerably cheaper. The other reason that really didn't figure in during the bid evaluation is the number of issues we've had with our Seagraves. We'll see how well the Pierce does in comparison.

Ian,

I knew there would be a logical answer. Thanks !!

Chris

Loudoun County,Va. - Chasselber1 - 08-27-2009

Ian, that was the same reason we went with Pierce. The price tag was much much cheaper. We were told that all Seagrave dealers were told to tack an extra 75 to 80 thousand dollars on to each unit that a quote was writtin for.

The Lansdowne Public Safety Center, Station 22, opened on August 6th. This is Loudoun County's newest fire station. It is staffed with an Engine, Medic/Ambulance, and BC 601 with both volunteer and career staff.

Station 22's first call was handled by Ambulance 622.

Station 23 in Loudoun County, Moorefield, was previously staffed by both Ashburn volunteers and career staff. With the opening of Station 22 in Lansdowne, a majority of the apparatus from Station 23 has moved to Station 22. Moorefield Station 23 is now fully staffed by career personnel only.

Engine 622 is a 2003 Spartan Gladiator/Ferrara 1500/500 with serial number H-2489. It was previously Engine 623.

Reserve Engine 622 is a 2005 Spartan Gladiator/Ferrara 1500/500 with serial number 2629. It was previously Reserve Engine 623.

Engine 622 and Reserve Engine 622 switch out each week on being the first out engine.

Two medic/ambulances run from FS 22. Both came from Fire Station 23.

622-1 is a 2002 Ford F350 4x4/Excellance. It was previously Ambulance 623-1.

Last one from Fire Station 22. A final determination has not yet been made whether this truck will be permanately housed at Station 22.

The Fire Marshall's investigation unit is this newer 2008 Ford F350/Supreme.

One other roster note with the changes to apparatus at Fire Station 22 and 23 - the county's Medical Ambulance Bus (MAB) is a 2007 Thomas Built/Sartan Services. It was previously housed at the Training Center and has now moved to Fire Station 23 in Moorefield. In addition, a second Monster Medic from Lucketts (2005 Freightliner M2/2006 Medic Master) will also run from Station 23.

Moorefield Fire Station 23 currently has a 2009 Pierce Velocity engine on order that will be arriving in Loudoun County shortly.

Since the changes with Stations 22 and 23 and until the new engine is placed into service, engine company operations at FS 23 have been handled by Ashburn's Wagon 6, a 2001 Spartan Gladiator/2002 Smeal 1500/600.

The Loudoun County "Ready Reserve" engine will now run as Engine 623 until the new engine is placed into service. This Ready Reserve was initially assigned to the Training Center and had a unique "see thru" pump panel to be able to see all of the plumbing behind the panel. It was then moved to Neersville as Engine 16. When Engine 16 recently received a new Pierce engine, this Pierce became the Ready Reserve. Prior to that, it was sent to Singers in Manassas where the see thru pump panel was replaced with a more tradional one, work was done on compartments, and some additional lettering completed.

It is a 2002 Pierce Enforcer 1250/750 with job number 12990.

Great shots.

Loudoun County,Va. - VFN102 - 08-29-2009

Mike, the day we visited Philomont I believe Pete said the new tanker is called "Reserve Tanker 608" and the older tanker would still be called Tanker 608. Has this changed since then?
