This can probably be verfied through any CFD buffs here but wasn't the pump removed due to a stipulation that an Engineer would need to be assigned to it if the pump remained? I seem to recall reading that only apparatus with pumps have Engineers assigned to them?

It appears that engine 13 met the same fate as tower 10 but tower 10 was on Lake Shore Drive when there wheels fell off.

That's a great shot Steve.Is that the Pulaski side or the 16th street side ?
It seems as though there aren't any more "Palaces" currently being built for the Chicago Fire Department even though land has been cleared for over a year now at Clark and Peterson for Engine 70 and Truck 47's new "Palace" but there isn't even a sign on the fence saying what the vacant land will be used for.
The Chicago Police have been getting new Palaces built for them for the last several years and they don't even live in them for 24 hours at a time like the Firemen do.

The red and green lights date from the late teens or early 20's when the Chicago Fire Commissioner was a man with a maritime background. On planes and boats red and green are used to denote port and starboard. Red is port and green is starboard. He thought that it would be go for use on the department vehicles so they started placing red and green lenses over the headlights shortly afterwards. This has continued to today not only in Chicago but in many of the Chicago suburbs where it is far more common to see red and green in a light bar or on the face of the truck than red and blue.

TL5 was a ALF Demo at FDIC and did have a pump on the truck. The pump was removed when CFD made the emergency purchase of the rig.
It is true that all engines must have a Engineer assigned who runs the pump and tank and there were discussions in the past about this when the City bought the Seagraves and Wards with booster equipment that resulted in Engineers added to the companies due to this.
Regardless, when you look at the fleet today, CFD does not have any towers or rearmounts that have pumps or tanks and the rigs are operated as straight truck companies so this truck having a pump did not meet the specs for towers or ladders and the pump was removed. However, I do understand that the truck now rides rough because it was designed for the weight of the pump and it is no longer there.
