Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 07-25-2010

Taken last week, a few more photos from Powhatan County. These were taken at Fine Creek VFD, Company 4. I took a chance and headed to the station in hopes of finding someone hanging around. After peering into the windows and sweating for about 20 minutes, long time member Frank Perkins happened by and pulled the rigs out for me. The only two things I was not able to shoot were Squad 4, a 2000 Kenworth T300/Pierce Encore (wouldn't start) and the Gator used on brush fires. Oh yeah, in my haste I forgot to "fix" the Roto-Ray before taking these pics.

It should be noted per Firepixer Roto-Ray, that this was the first rig with TAK 4 independent front suspension delivered in Virginia, and the second Enforcer in the Commonwealth. And no, it's not your eyes, the paint does have an orange tint.

Handling water shuttle duties is this custom cab elliptical tanker. Quite a contrast in style in comparison to the tanker at Powhatan Courthouse Company 1.

Most fire companies in Powhatan use this type of vehicle for emergency medical responses. This is also used to pull the trailer which carries the aforementioned Gator.

Forgot about this one. I don't normally shoot Chief's cars, but thought this one is kind of attractive. It's an ex-Powhatan Sheriffs Dept vehicle but I didn't jot down the year.

Judging by the chrome grill, bumper trim and door handle surrounds, style of body-side moldings and 15" wheels/wheelcovers, it's a 1998

Thank you for posting this YeOldeEnjine. I knew this Pierce went to a West Virginia department after leaving Bailey's Cross Roads, I just did not know where. My records show it was sold 2001.

Mathias Baker is not real far from me.....I need to make a trip. Please PM me if you have a contact at the department.

Here is the Pierce as Engine 10 taken July of 1988.

This rig looks absolutely awesome in its second life. My guess is it will have many strong years of service yet to come. It's hard to kill many of the Arrows. They can take a beating and still perform strong year after year. Fairfax 10 has always done a great job speccing out their Engines. Short wheelbases, tight profiles and user friendly hose beds. Good stuff.

Thanks for posting!

Our photo group was in Alexandria in early March. We stopped by the new Station 209. However, none of the apparatus had been re-numbered to 209, and all still had 202 on them. Can anyone confirm that these apparatus have been re-numbered for 209? With the traffic in Alexandria and on I-95 to get there, no one wants to make that trip and find the old 202 numbers still on the rigs. Any help will be greatly appreciated.

Jerry

Jerry,

I'm planning a trip to that area within the next 3 weeks. I'll make sure and stop at that station.

Jerry,

I will be in town Aug 20 - Sept 6, I will find out for you. Last time I was there a month or so ago they were still sporting 202.

Most Likely Vermilion Red. This was the standard Pierce Color for RED in the 1970's. We had a number of rigs in the KC area painted in that color including my 1980 Arrow Tower and 1983 Arrow Pump. In the fire house it looked Red in the sun it looked Orange-Red I was not real fond of the color but it was a version of RED which was ok by me. We have since returned a darker red Candy Apple. Thanks for posting it does look good love the Roto-Ray. Stay Safe, Rick

[/quote]I also go to the Target right next store once or twice a month, so I'll check in if I see them renumbered.

The earliest rescue truck I have from Coles is this Dodge PW - appears to be an old military unit. No other information. Notice the Civil Defense markings.
