Next is the Hygienic Hose Company No. 5 of Steelton. Company 514. They later reorganized into the Hygienic Fire and Rescue Company No. 7.

This is the only picture I have ever seen of any of the apparatus from the Hygienic.

Old Engine 514 and crew.

Looks like an old "Civil Defense" GMC Engine.

Old Ladder 52

American LaFrance

X-Ladder 2, Harrisburg City.

This is a picture of it shortly after it had been purchased from Harrisburg City, as it still has the old riot shield over the cab.

And here is a picture of the truck after it was refurbed and had a fiberglass cab roof put on it.

This rig was just bought by someone from the local area from that big auto auction out in the eastern part of the state last year.

Is West Side Hose the company that hosted that super big "farewell" party on Friday night of Fire Expo this year? I met a lot of guys from New Jersey on Saturday who were telling me about one of the Steelton fire companies that merged, sold the firehouse and property that the company had owned, so decided to blow between $50,000 and $100,000 on a farewell open house that outdid any parade or wetdown they had ever attended. They said the food and beer just kept coming all evening!

Keystone State Relics - engine216 - 07-04-2007

Rich, I am not sure about that. I can check around and find out. The West Side merged with the other borough companies in 1985 to make the Steelton Fire Department.

Next up is the Baldwin Fire Company No. 4 of Steelton. Company 53. Like the West Side, this company merged in 1985 and is no longer in service.
