Why do all the Mack's and the ALF's have the triangle or cover over the siren speaker. Is it a sound dampener? Just curious?

The former 1983 ALF/Saulsbury Mobile Medical Units, were converted into Rehab Units, pre-cursor to the RAC Units- This is Rehab-2 #AM-8302

Rescue-4, Queens 1996 HME/Saulsbury #SR-9604. There were some problems with these rigs, and they proved too big too.
