Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 08-18-2010 Final pic from my trip. It had become so overcast at this point, I gave up going to some of the other stations. Squad 10 serves as a back-up extrication unit. She previously saw service in Frederick Co, VA at the Middletown VFD. Palmyra Squad 10 1994 Ford F-Super Duty/Marion S/N 50943 QM 4x4 Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 08-23-2010
Andy, This is the earliest I have (photos I have taken) from Bucks Hall: Engine 16 1967 Seagrave 1250/300 ex- Burke, Virginia photo taken in July of 1987 Mike Sanders Winchester, VA
Per Andy's request, here are several more earlier Buckhall trucks: Wagon 16 1986 Pierce Arrow 1250/1000 sold to Little Fork, VA Photo taken in 1990 Mike Sanders Winchester, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 08-23-2010 Wagon 16, the 1986 Pierce, was rehabed in 1996 by Pierce to include a 4 door. This is the actual truck that was sold to Little Fork, VA in 2003. Job number E3501 and rehab number F3521. Photo taken in 1996. Mike Sanders Winchester, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 08-23-2010 Tanker 16 at Buckhall was this 1989 International/4-Guys 450/2500. It rolled during a snowstorm in December of 2003 and was destroyed. Corrections welcomed. Photo taken in 1990. Mike Sanders Winchester, VA Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 08-23-2010 Last from Buckhall is Engine 16, a 1993 Pierce Arrow 1750/1000 with job number E7750. Now in service in McDowell, Virginia (Highland County). Photo taken in 1996. Mike Sanders Ashburn, VA
I saw this unit on a flat bed going through Bowie, MD a few weeks ago, has it been replaced? Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Roto-Ray - 08-23-2010
I saw this unit on a flat bed going through Bowie, MD a few weeks ago, has it been replaced?
Yes, it's been replaced with this 2010 Pierce Impel HDR. So-so parade photo taken the day after it was delivered. My information indicates that the ex Dale City/King George unit was sold to Brindlee Mountain Fire Apparatus, but if you saw it going through Bowie, then might have sold it already. It's not showing as a delivery on their site, though. The clouds marched in and rained on our (mine and Roto-Ray's) parade! This is one of three identical ambulances owned by Dumfries-Triangle Volunteer Rescue Squad. It doesn't have a unit designation on it at the moment, not sure what it will go by on the radio. Palmyra Squad 10 1994 Ford F-Super Duty/Marion S/N 50943 QM 4x4
Ok, a question.....is it technically the Fluvanna County VFC or the Palmyra VFC, as two of the rigs have both designations on them? Just curious Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 09-20-2010
Ok, a question.....is it technically the Fluvanna County VFC or the Palmyra VFC, as two of the rigs have both designations on them? Just curious
Good question Chris, but I never thought to ask. Looking at Palmyra's webpage (http://fluvannaco1.com/about.html) it also uses both names. Further reading leads me to believe the Fluvanna Volunteer Fire DEPARTMENT is the umbrella organization made up of the Palmyra, Fork Union, and Kents Store Volunteer Fire COMPANIES. There is also the Lake Monticello VFD. Reference is made to "both fire departments are 100% volunteer and work together....." By that I surmise there are two volunteer fire departments serving Fluvanna (Fluvanna VFD & Lake Monticello VFD). Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - ShoreFire - 09-20-2010 Just a thought, but in SW Virginia some depts have either the Town/City or the County on the door of the apparatus, depending on who funded it. Hence trucks sitting side by side in the same station with two different names on them. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 09-20-2010 I made a quick trip up the road to Fluvanna County on Monday in hopes of shooting rigs I have never had an opportunity to do so before. I struck out at Fork Union, but lucked out at Palmyra. If you want pictures of the Fork Union fire trucks you need to catch them at a fire as most of the members do not hang out at the firehouse, a new modern firehouse is in the works once the homeland security grant gets the final go-ahead....... I have some pictures of them that I will try to post soon. As for designation as to the firetrucks in Palmyra the Palmyra Volunteer fire company is part of the Fluvanna County Volunteer Fire System which includes Palmyra, Fork Union and Kents Store that run under one larger organization. Engine 11 is dispatched as Engine 11 but is known as a rescue engine as is Engine 52. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 09-20-2010 Attached is a photo/poster I did for the Fork Union volunteer Fire Company (Company 2 in Fluvanna County) in 2008 for their 40th Anniversary. Shown left to right Attack 20, Engine 20 and Tanker 20 -- not shown car 20 and car 21....... The new station will be on RT15 north of downtown Fork Union back off the road a little ways next to the Fork Union Community Center. 3 triple deep bays) funded by Homeland Security Grant that has had some issues because the grant administrator and replacement both left their jobs earlier this year..... Also generally only Company 1 staffs their building during the day on certain days of the week, volunteers in Fork Union and Kents Store usually respond to the building as calls come in. dave Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 09-21-2010
I made a quick trip up the road to Fluvanna County on Monday in hopes of shooting rigs I have never had an opportunity to do so before. I even stopped at the gas station/convenience store and the lady tried making a few calls without any luck. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - mnsand - 10-24-2010 Natural Bridge in Rockbridge County (off of I81 between Lexington and Roanoke) will soon be receiving their new Engine 1102, a 2010 Smeal Sirius 1500/750/20 with serial number 3900.
