I think this was Engine 35

From the company logo on the officer side it is or was Engine 14.

What is FDR-1?

F.D.N.Y. - e290l103 - 10-04-2009

there are certain points on the FDR drive there is a weight restriction on vehicles. if there is an incident on that stretch of highway, the company takes that rig on the highway and the bigger rigs go to the cross street and meet up with it. there used to be 2 of these, when it first originated in 1995 E16 and E44 had them. I gotta reshoot this one, they took the sides off it and added diamondplate boxes on it since I did it.

F.D.N.Y. - Ladder 68 - 10-04-2009

FDR-1 and FDR-2...which one is housed with who? And are both still in service or is just one remaining in service?

Thanks in advance.

F.D.N.Y. - e290l103 - 10-04-2009

FDR1 is with E16. FDR2 was with E53, then E44 then E22. its listed in the history as still being at E22, but it wasnt last time I was there. I thought it was gone. They have been in and out of service a couple of times since they were formed in 1991.

Outstanding information...I appreciate it.

Be safe.

didnt the expansion of the fdr ramps negate the need for the fdr units?? well thats what i had heard anyway.

F.D.N.Y. - rescueff - 10-04-2009

Can anyone explain to me why these Special Units are needed for the FDR? Is it because the Engines & Ladders will not fit on this part of the highway? I'm not fimilar with NYC at all.

Thanks

i think the some ramps leading into the fdr were to narrow for fire apparatus.

I went up to NYC (Manhattan) for a day trip a couple weeks ago with a class and took a couple grab shots on the streets while I was there.

I read on another board that Ferrara was awarded 20 rear mounts, and if they are accepted, or if they work out, FDNY will order another 10 units. That same person, stated that apparently no company other than Ferrara bid on the new Rescue's...

Can anyone shed some light on this?

I was informed Saturday by a member of Sq 18 that they would be getting 7 new Ferrara squads as well...
