The chief has said he is "open" to looking at making some changes to the "TQC". It's VERY hard to justify 20 aerial ladders in 20 stations when virtually no other city in the country (save for St. Louis to a certain extent) is doing the same. It's also VERY hard to justify 2 front line pieces for every company. Most in the department would agree we could do very well with a mix of quints and traditional engine companies. What ever route we go with though, we will still need some quints. The 4 current 105' Pierce's are in ROUGH shape and are becoming a major maintenance issue and will need to be replaced. The 3 Rescue's are also well past their useful life span. I can't remember the exact figure but our apparatus maint. budget is well over $1 million a year now and we are struggling to keep rigs in service every day. Hopefully we will have the bid advertised soon.
