Last one from Reagan is EMS 373, utilizing one of two former mini pumpers originally purchased for parking garage incidents and better access to smaller areas.



EMS 373 is a 2001 Ford F550/Pierce 250/300. Dulles operates a twin.

Mike (or anyone else that knows), the apparatus numbering scheme for MWAA seems very random, especially when it comes to the HM, MCU, and foam rigs. Is there a rhyme or reason to this?

I noticed the same thing. Maybe now that the newer rigs are coming in numbered for the station maaybe they'll just let the old ones be phased out or renumber the whole fleet(which could be very expensive).

As I understand it (I am sure others will chime in if I get any of this wrong)



It used to be that even numbered units were assiged to Dulles and odd numbered units to National.

MWAA is now following the Washington Area Council of Governments (COG) fire numbering system, based on station and locality

100 Arlington County

200 Alexandria City

300 MWAA

400 FairFax County

etc, etc etc



I have not heard of any plans to renumber the existing SERV, FOAM and Misc units.

The new Striker (not sure if it has been ordered yet but if not will be ordered sometime this year) for National will be Foam 301 when delivered.

Couple questions for ya. When I was at Dulles the other day I photographed a Foam 328 and a Utility 302. Do you happen to have years on both, and pump/tank info on F328. Also, wanted to let ya know. Going by your photos posted the only Crash rig that is gone is F356.

Pat wheres Foam 328 at? I show Foam 302,326,336 at FS302. Foam 352,356,358 at FS304.

Foam 328 is a 1996 Oshkosh T-3000 2000/3120/420 with 450# Purple K.

Utility 302 is a 2008 Ford F250.



I photographed most of the crash trucks back in 2008. With the Strikers delivered, changes were made and F356 was taken out of service and I am assuming sold.



Also recently taken out of service and currently for sale is old Truck 338, the 1991 Pierce Arrow 75' 1500/300.

Shoop, the info you listed are where the crash trucks are housed on a "normal" basis at the two Dulles field stations. However, it is not uncommon to see some moving around of the crash trucks between the two stations, especially the older Oshkosh crash trucks.



I was told that the IH/Pierce ATF unit is stored at FS 304 for the ATF since they have the room.

Truck 338 has been OOS ever since the new Tower arrived, as they stripped everything off to get it ready for auction. It's probably been sitting in the surplus property lot at Dulles ever since it was completely stripped. The auction on it actually closed today at 2 PM.

The Deputy Chief of MWAA is shown in the new Oshkosh Striker launch video.I wonder if MWAA might be one of the launch customers? I know they are going to be ordering a Striker of some sort this year for National.

As am told by the "powers that be", MWAA was the agency tasked with developing the recent COG system. That is the A, B, C lettering format not the 100, 200, 300 numbers that were cooked up back in the 90s. Yes they catch doo doo often for this including from me but as stated were "under a directive". MWAA has renumered accordingly its off-site response units engine truck, medic. The "old" numbers are in actuality still used as shop numbers i.e. Engine 303 is considdered shop 380, EMS 302 shop 373 etc. There is talk of converting the rest of the fleet over eventually yes there one day might be a Foam 302-Charlie. Then again I hear on the QT they often yell at Loudoun for its limited conformity and have been at the PG Vollie Association a few times too. As always will believe it when I see it. Here is some info for you guys keeping track of the MWAA apparatus. The 2001 Pierce Quantum engine that was rolled over, was purchased by Marco Fire Equipment in Honey Brook, PA. They have refurbished the engine, and have it for sale. Still painted in MWAA colors, with the Pentagon decal on the cab. I'm looking forward to seeing where this unit goes.
