This is the LCC of 31 Truck, who had, the night tour preceding this day work, celebrated his 20th year on the job. He was in quite a giddy mood (although according to the other members of 82/31 that was not unusual) and stopped all traffic on Intervale Avenue wearing this outfit so that we could get the pictures. He swore he was going to wear the helmet on any runs. Great guy, even invited us to his 20 year meal that evening, but unfortunately we had to pass. The rest of the guys were awesome too. Highly recommended stop for any Bronx buffing. Marc, any idea of his ID and if he is still on the job?
They have some real characters over in 82/31......GREAT GUYS!!!! It's kind of tough to tell the identity of this Brother due to the "Helmet". Send me the pic to my email, and i'll send it to a few of the guys that I know over in "La Casa Grande'". I'm sure they'll be able to ID the "Caped Horn Head"!!!!! F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 10-13-2009 good shots Eli! F.D.N.Y. - Ladder 68 - 10-13-2009 The Ford stakebed truck I assume is the 2nd piece for Engine 33. Is this one of the Purple K units? If so, where is the other assigned? Thanks in advance. I saw it on my drive back from DC. F.D.N.Y. - Ladder 68 - 10-25-2009 With regard to the accident on Saturday, hope all the brothers are ok and get back to work soon. Any idea the extent of damage to the new rig assigned to Engine 236 and the one assigned to Tower Ladder 107? Thanks in advance.
The engine was not a new one, and damage was not bad per the pictures on Firehouse. The TL cab is destroyed. The truck came to rest with a LARGE tree inside the cab...trapping the engineer for 2 hours. It rolled onto it's left side, so it might be able to be remounted?? F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 10-25-2009
The engine was not a new one, and damage was not bad per the pictures on Firehouse.
I'd say its junk now, but i'm not a higher up. I said the same thing about Squad 18 and they're freankenstein-ing that rig. But generally i'd surmise if a rig is on its side, it's likely toast, much like 120 truck a few years back. There is just something with these 95 footers that they have a black cloud over them for some reason. Ladder 85 had one which had problems with everything from the frame to the boom to the hydraulics...that got sent to the rock for training, then pulled back into service when Ladder 12 had their wreck with the Squad. Ladder 1 was in the shops for quite a while as well. I know rigs are in da shops a lot now, more so then before it seems, but it seems like they're just havin bad luck with the 95 footers. But the more important issue here is the crew. Thankfully they all survived what looked like a pretty rough ride, and hopefully will be back on the job sooner rather then later. All things told the outcome could have been much worse. The one other good thing is the response. You know when you're in trouble, you'll have the brothers backing you up, and even the ESU guys as well. F.D.N.Y. - Marc - 10-25-2009 Speedy recovery to all the BROTHERS involved!!!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/3_5_15.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> F.D.N.Y. - gjh119 - 10-25-2009 Rigs can be replaced, Firefighter lives can't!
