I emailed Mike Sanders earlier this month and special requested a few photos from Roanoke County, where I got my start in the fire service back in 1994. Mike was nice enough to oblige my request and send me pics of Tower and Tanker 9 (Fort Lewis). Thanks Mike!

Though it may seem odd to have a Tower Ladder and Tanker at the same house... Station 9 is part rural and part suburban. The main reason for the Tower is a large nursing home in their first due. The Tanker also supports southeastern Montgomery County, VA (Elliston VFD). Medic 9 (24 hour county staffed) also operates out of Fort Lewis.

Fairfax Tanker 441 (Crosspointe)

This Tanker (and all other Fairfax Tankers) is paired with a Pierce Dash (CAFS) Engine

Fairfax Tanker 439 (North Point)

Tanker 439's rig was originally intended to be Tanker 442 (a new firehouse on route 7 between FS29 and FS39). The economic crisis put FS42 on hold indefinitely but the county recognized the need for an additional Tanker near Great Falls to supplement Engine and Tanker 412. It will be housed at FS39 until FS42 opens.

Engine 439 is NOT a Dash CAFS rig, since 39 was never intended to be an Engine/Tanker Company.

Lettered as Tanker 442 and "Wolf Trap" for its eventual assignment

Awesome shots of the Fairfax tankers. Those are sharp looking.

One of 4 identical Pierce Dash CAFS rigs assigned to stations 16, 20, 41 and 12.

Shown here as Engine 416 (Clifton)

Thanks Taylor! I got my start at Vinton Rescue Company 2 - Home of "Squad 2" that you posted (which IS in fact very dear to my heart). My first ride on that rig was a "Trench Rescue" in Company 12's (Read Mountain) district - a construction worker buried alive in a trench because the company he worked for didn't insist on putting the steel shoring in place. The shoring device was 10 feet away from the trench that the man perished in. Very sad. Back then "Squad 9" looked like a mini-pumper. Nice to see they upgraded to a rig better suited for Interstate 81 (in their first due). Not sure if if they still do today but back then a "Squad" (Heavy Rescue) was dispatched on ALL vehicle accidents.

Thanks again!

This ALF ladder truck continues to go strong. New lights have been added to the front cab and I believe new lights up top.

Prior to the lights on the front cab, in small wording on the front cab it use to have "Lurch" and "You Rang Sir?".

Truck 10 runs from the North Warren Fire Station 10, located just outside of Front Royal, Virginia and not far off of I-66. Orginally ordered by Albany, NY, it was eventually sold to Front Royal and ran as Truck 1. When the new Spartan/Smeal ladder truck arrived in Front Royal in 2003, this was sold to Warren County, who placed it at the North Warren Fire Station. It is a 1984 ALF with a rehab in 1992. 100' ladder.

OK. Where is it now?

Old Truck 3 is in Kenova, West Virginia... A Long ride from PWC, went there to exchange Bells since the membership thought it would be traditional to have the Old Chrome Bell placed on the New Truck... They Also had our signboards from the Aerial One of those now hangs in the bay above the new Truck.

Here she is looking good in Kenova. Don't know who the guy is in the pic. It's the best pic I could find from their Facebook page.

Excellent work Nate! I really dig the black wheels on the Gainesville rescue.
