This sits between Rescue and Engine 3. This once housed the Reserve Snorkel after the Ladder was purchased. All living quarters are on second floor. Administration is on first floor. The white dome across the top of the bays a hallway. To the rear is the bunk room over the bays. The right over the Administration offices is the day room, locker room, kitchen. To the left the hallway leads to the training tower on the north side of the building sticking up. One Brass Fire Pole is from the bunk room and one Brass Fire Pole is from the hallway. Current Fire Pole from the mezzanine area, there is a gate at the top. This was the fire pole from the old house. Note: They are also storing the old fire house three pole. This fire house looks very cool the bays face a busy street and the second floor is the main entrance facing a neighborhood street and looks like a house. This had one fire pole that was removed and is stored at fire house one. It was called the speed pole due the small diameter of the pole. Recognize the name on the stone Leo M. Ellebracht. Mr. Ellebracht was the Missouri Seagrave Dealer for many many years and supplied the St. Louis Metro and Kansas City Metro with superior Seagrave Fire Apparatus. The second floor has the kitchen, day room, bunk room, and locker room. Their is one steel fire pole that drops from the bunk room next to the ambulance. This is one of the coolest fire houses and will be replaced in the next two years sadly. Kansas and Missouri - MFD76 - 07-06-2010 University City Fire Department Fire House 1 built 1903 as Lewis Publishing Company Printing Factory opened as Fire House One in 1930 Engine, Ambulance, Battalion Chief, Reserve Ambulance. This building is a true classic. The first floor houses fire administration, watch office, kitchen. The second floor has the bunk room, locker room, and day room. One Brass Fire Pole drops from the main bunk hall it is easily accessed from all areas of the second floor. U-City received a grant to build a new fire house one the current building is need of replacement structurally. NOTE: The design feature were the large pumper bay door is cut. The original fire house is the ambulance-reserve engine bay. The addition houses the truck. The watch office, kitchen, day room are on the first floor. The bunk room, locker room, training room are on the second floor. The brass fire pole is in the original fire house, it is no longer is functional however the floor-hole is designed so it can be reopened. |
