Yes, I have two of them. They are quite nice and go well with my replica of Foam 352 that THW Collectibles did.

Bad timing today...I got to Dulles and just when I walked in the door at 303 the rigs at 302 and 304 were dispatched to stand by on an Alert Two for an aircraft coming in withi some issue.

Engine 303 wasn't included on the call so I shot that instead. The Tower adn teh Strikers will have to wait until another day/trip.

In other news there is a Striker on order for National, due in the March time frame.

Engine 303

Back in Minnesota now but on Saturday afternoon I spent about two hours out at Station 301 at National Airport being treated like a king. I have over 600 photos to look through but I thought I would post an unusual shot, all three ARFF rigs assigned to National together.

Foam 331 1997 Oshkosh T-3000 2000 GPM, 3120 GWT, 420 GFT-B, 450# Purple K

Foam 337 1996 Oshkosh T-3000 2000 GPM, 3120 GWT, 420 GFT-B, 450# Purple K (this unit was previously at Dulles before being moved to National)

Foam 345 1995 Oshkosh T-3000 2000 GPM, 3120 GWT, 420 GFT-B, 450# Purple K

Lots more pictures to come but it may take a week or so to go through them.

I also have to find my notes that I took on developments at Station 301.....for now be biggest news is a new Striker 3000 has been ordered and is anticipated March or April 2011 to replace Foam 345.

What is the area above the ladder (on the officer's side) used for? I've never seen that before on a Pierce rig.

It is an open area and a half step to make accessing the top of the apparatus safer. I think that is what you are asking about, if not let me know and I will try to figure out what your looking at.

I looks like there are coffin compartments on the top officer side. It is used as a place to stand to get the equipment out of the top

That's an inset step area to make it safer to step up to the hosebed or to access the coffin compartments. Check the "Appleton" threads and you'll see a number of rigs with this feature.

Massive multi-jurisdiction/multi-discipline exercise held at Reagan-DCA today. There were units from MWAA, DCFD, Alexandria, Arlington County, City of Fairfax and Fairfax County, Stafford County, Prince William County, Fort Belvoir, Fort Myer and a rescue from Charles County, MD. I only had time to grab a few quick cell-phone shots between getting the patients tagged, treated and transported and the critique.

Washington Metro Airports Authority VA - davemcclung - 09-19-2010

Thanks for the added shots SrFire. When I was at National before I left they showed me the mock up they were going to use and invited me to the drill, unfortunatly I couldn't get back to DC for it with everything I have going on. I still have to go through all my shots I took out there and add some, it may be a while though as I am running nearly nonstop back here in MN these days.

No new shots, however ETA on the new striker, Foam 301, is February/March. DC's striker should be finished just before the airports. The rumor is Foam 352 will actually be detailed to FS301 from Dulles before the new Foam 301 gets here to get a head start on the driver training process, since the units will be extremely similar. This would significantly cut down on the time needed to place the unit in service.

Thanks for the updated FTLAUD. Last time I was at 301 I asked if they ever thought they would end up with a snozzel and the thought is that National doesn't warrent a snozzel.

331 is the next unit to be replaced, as of now, in 2012. The rumor is that the striker that replaces 331 will have a snozzle. As of now though, no real big push to get one. The biggest aircraft that flies out of DCA is a 757, and even that is only 5 or 6 times a day. I wouldn't be surprised if they gave another snozzle unit to Dulles before they got one for DCA, but that's just speculation on my part. Many of the guys just see it as one more thing to break and to be maintained, and one more headache in the process of driver/operators training.

I figured that the next Striker would go to National in 12 and then Dulles should be due for one maybe two before replacing #3 at National.
