Got detailed down to Manhattan one night to drive 14 Engine. Great house, but man, it had to be the tightest fitting door on the job.

Heard some rumors that FDNY is going away from Seagrave, is there any truth to this???

F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 01-16-2010

Ferrara Rearmount Ladders, and Ferrara Rescues are on order.

F.D.N.Y. - Guest - 01-16-2010

Yeah that will be interesting.......will give Ferrara a boost or will be the death of Ferrara trying to keep up with the warranties

F.D.N.Y. - anesti - 01-16-2010

are any of the Ferrara's in production yet??

F.D.N.Y. - Russell - 01-16-2010

I wonder if Seagrave is going away from FDNY... That warranty has got to be killer.

F.D.N.Y. - rescueff - 01-18-2010

This may seem like a stupid question but does FDNY sell their old units still after they are retired? Or do they just get scraped now?

I know back in the day they used to sell their old Mack Engines & Seagrave Ladders to departments but I have not seen this trend anymore.

Thanks

If you go to Ferrara's website they have a "In production" section with pictures unless the site has changed.

Yes Fdny does still sell there old units, however alot of the part's are stripped off it such as the warning lights, the front grill and probably some other odds and ends. Also the truck would have to be repainted because they paint over where all the decals used to be. The trucks are sold ever two or three weeks. Here is the link to the city's auction site. http://www.nyc.gov/html/dcas/html/auctions/autoauctions.shtml

Yes and No.

It is not a rumor that the bids for rearmount ladders and rescues were awarded to Ferrara Fire Apparatus.

This is due to the fact that for the aerials, Seagrave had 20+ exceptions to the RFP, all mainly having to do with NYC's warranty requirements. It should also be noted that Seagrave was $2500 cheaper per unit. Ferrara was NOT awarded the bid because they were cheaper.

For the Rescues, Seagrave simply did not submit a bid proposal. FFA in fact, was the only submitter.

Is FDNY "going away" from Seagrave? No. They are awarding their bids to manufacturers whom submit bid proposals that meet their requirements.
