I see this chassis posted from time to time. Do you know what the story with it's ridiciously long front overhang is?

This & That from Here & There - GA_Dave - 10-30-2012

The next day, we headed to the Sanford area. The Volunteer FD's around Sanford have only recently began staffing their stations during weekday hours. We were able to shoot every station except one on this day.

Nope! No idea what they were thinking, but it makes for an interesting photo.

Is this orginal to Kure Beach? It looks a lot like my company's old Floodlight unit we had.

Guys if I'm not mistaken, the KME Falcon cab was mounted on an International chassis with wheelbase to normally support a 2-door conventional cab. The engine tunnels were normally in the rear of the cab and the front was clear all across. Is this the case with that one Dave?

I agree, in which case it would be a 1988 IH S-1900/1975 Hamerly, remounted and refurbed by Beaver Body. Originally on a 1975 GMC tilt-cab.

Providence VFD, Baltimore County

Okay, so I was wrong..... Actually, Jon was wrong. Jon previously shot this rig at another FD and told me it was a Swab. There are no identification tags on the vehicle anywhere. Thanks for the correct info, guys!

I believe the motor is located between the driver and officer seats.

ME? WRONG? Absolutely impossible! O.k., maybe......When I shot this rig the first time, it was in Holly Ridge in Onslow County. IIRC, it had a Swab tag on it then, Identifying the body as a 1978. And I got partial info that it came from West "Somewhere"' MD. Am I wrong? Good possibility, as it looks like the Providence truck. But I still seem to remember a Swab tag back then. There WAS a Hammerly squad in Onslow County at the same time ( at the Piney Green FD) but it was on a 1973 International Cargostar chassis. Anyway, my apologies if I messed up.

No need to apologize, we shot almost 200 rigs in four days. No complaints here. And I take back all I said about the 28 posts in 6 years, now that you have 29....

I've been to West "Somewhere", MD, it's near Oakland..... <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Fireman' />

[/quote]It was my understanding, at least at the time, that the chassis was an International bus chassis of some type. Engine all the way forward, long overhang was to allow for the engine and the front loading door to occupy the same general real estate forward of the front axle. The poor unfortunates in the neighboring town from me had to suffer with one of these monstrosities until it was euthanized as a result of a traffic accident (no brothers were injured, luckily). No one came to the truck's funeral. As we can all well imagine, price was a major consideration to the creation of this abomination. If anyone has different or additional info, please pass it along! OK, thanks for listening; cheers, TJ <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/stirpot.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Stirpot' />

yes, the Falcon KME's were built on International chassis

This & That from Here & There - Guest - 10-31-2012

Providence, MD

1975 GMC L/Hamerly floodlight truck

Rechassied in 1988 with an International S1800 by Beaverbuilt. Floodlight 293. Providence has been in the Floodlight service since 1975 when it placed in service its first Floodlight. The unit had a 30kw gasoline-powered Onan generator. It was re-chassied in 1998 and mounted on the Internatioal and was sold to Kure Beach, NC FD.
