Heard Rumor that FDNY was going away from Seagrave and going with someone else. Is there any truth to this and if so who are they going with and does anyone have any pictures?

[/quote]

They are not "going away" from Seagrave. When the last RFP for rearmount aerial ladders was issued, Seagrave and FFA were the only two vendors who submitted bids.

Seagrave was cheaper by over $2500 per unit, however, they had over 20 exceptions in their bid- mostly related to warranty issues.

FFA's bid came closest to the City's RFP, therefore they were issued the contract.

On a side note, the 5 new rescue companies will also be FFA, simply for the fact that FFA was the only vendor to submit a bid.

I have a few questions about this. I was on the Ferrara site the other day and did not see any FDNY rigs in the"In Production" section of the site I know the orderes have been in for a while and was wondering when they are due? The other question is what Ferrara Cab are they going to use? There are a few on the site so I was just wondering. Thanks

When was this? I was working yesterday and saw R-3 up on Arthur Ave. with their regular rig. I believe that this rig is the Reserve Rescue, not a spare.

It appears to be holding up well. As for the Reserve Rescue, all of our reserve rigs (Engines, trucks, Rescues and Squads) are all fully equipped and only need manpower. They are usually only used in the event of a major catastrophe, i.e. Sept. 11th., or an event where guys on overtime will man them.

Im probably the only one who is confused but.

The fully equipped reserve/s rescues arent used when one of the 5 Rescue Companies is out of service for repairs but the spare-non equipped rescues are used when a rescue is in for repairs?

Does the FDNY run Rescue 6 daily?

How many Reserve / Spare Rescues does FDNY have?

Thanks in advance sorry for my confusion.

It can be a bit confusing at times!

You are correct with your first question. The non-equipped spares are used when one of the normal rescue rigs is OOS. The reserves are only used if needed in an emergency, or if another company needs to be activated immediately.

Rescue 6 was only in full time service during the Republican National Convention back in 2004.

I believe there's 3-4 spare rescues, and 1 reserve rescue.

Thanks, im sure i get annoying with the questions but how many reserve / spare engine and trucks does FDNY have, with a Dept so large there spare / reserve fleet has to be the size of a big cities active fleet.

The Freightliner/ALF was the rig they used as R-6. It is now used as a spare. I believe the Mack/General is the only rig they use as the reserve rescue.

And like Anesti said, I believe the last of the Mack/Saulsbury's have been disposed of. The '82/'91 single axle Mack Rescue that was the original rig of R-2, then was used for support services, was recently auctioned off. The city sure got their money's worth out of that rig.
