Is there a Chicago connection w/ the Federal Heights FD? Black roofs and the Green warning light up front (on some of their rigs) is a bit unusual for a Colorado department. Putting aside that black roofs are common today.

Although I can't confirm it, I was told once that a former Chicago Chief or Officer had gotten involved with Fed Heights after moving here. The rigs had been school bus yellow and he convinced them to go Chicago style. Two other departments along the front range have moved to Black over Red, Mountain View Fire District and the Wescott Fire District. One of Westcott chiefs came from MD so he added a roto-ray and powercall to their pumper.

Actually the former Chief (Jim Krupa) at Federal Heights was an x-Cicero, Il firefighter but a big Chicago buff. I had the privilege of meeting him several times on my trips thru Denver in the early '90's.

The new South Metro Fire Rescue Authority Engine 35. 2010 Pierce Velocity PUC with bumper mounted turret. I don't have all the specs but this is the first due Engine to Centennial Airport and does have some ARFF capabilities.
