I recalled seeing a photo of the reserve squad which was a Saulsbury if i remember correctly. Does anyone have more info on this?

Chicago Fire Department - karl4700 - 10-30-2006

JFong, I believe this is the squad you are talking about. Its an HME/Saulsbury, origionally assigned to Squad Co. 1. It was involved in a serious crash too w/ heavy cab damage if my memory serves me right. It is now a spare.

Thanks for the info Karl

If that is now a spare, what is Squad 1 running with?

Squad 1 is in this rig of course

Chicago Fire Department - Ladder 68 - 10-30-2006

That is in fact the former rig assigned to Squad 1. I rode on it when visiting. Shortly afterwards was the accident. It went to the 2nd piece of 5-1-1 for a while if I remember correctly before being placed as a reserve squad.

Corrections welcome.

Ladder 68, you are correct, it did serve the hazmat team as well before going to reserve status. If I remember correctly, when this squad was purchased, there was not a snorkel to go with it. they ran this as a single piece squad company, which didn't last for too long. Please correct me if this is wrong.

Chicago Fire Department - Ladder 68 - 10-31-2006

When I was there was that they were a 1 piece squad. It was explained to me that Squad 5's snorkel was somewhat permanently placed out out service (Spartan/E-One I believe). I can't remember if it was wrecked or if it had a crack in the boom somewhere. Squad 1's snorkel was re-assigned to Squad 5 in place of it. Why I don't recall. Squad 1 then ran as a single piece squad company.

Corrections welcome as I am working off of memory and phone calls. LOL.

Hi folks.

First an OT question. Within the last couple of weeks I saw a couple of shots of a tower ladder with 2 buckets. It was a limited edition model, either Sutphen or E\-One. Does anybody remember what topic that was in?

Back on T. Somehow Chicago topics alway seem to be good ones and this is no exception. Thanks Ed and all who have contributed. Since you took the time to read this, here's a couple of Chicago shots I dug up. Taken about 20 years ago.

Chuck Buschardt photos. Scanned to disk and archived by Ken Paradowski.
