And lastly from the trailer sales place is this truck. This belongs more under the "sad ends" heading rather than the relics, but anyway...

Elliston, VA "X Engine 23"

1873? Man, that's an OLD one!!! <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/fireman.gif' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='Fireman' />

82-101 was delivered to the Cabin John Park FD in Bethesda, MD in 1973, one of two Model P82-1250D-5 pumpers ordered. This one ran as Engine 301 and was later refurbed by Mt. Aetna.

Whoops, guess that's what I get for typing in a hurry. Thanks for the info Dave!

This one was on the side of a 4-lane highway between Greenville & Spartanburg, SC. The guy relettered it "Ashlyn" to name it after his daughter.

Same road, a few miles further towards Greenville. This truck was in really good shape. Julie thought it was cool how they painted the sun-shade in the windows to look like Red's eyes off the movie Cars.

I found these 6 trucks at a trailer sales company off Highway 11 near Campobello, SC yesterday. The owner is trying his hand at selling used fire apparatus.

How bad off did the Allentown rig look?

Relics - Rheems1 - 08-20-2012

Here is one that tugs at my heart strings, Bart Township had a wonderful 1981 Ford/Pierce tandem axle tanker that was an award winner at many, many convention parades around the area. They bought a Kenworth/Pierce tanker in 2008 but were keeping both tankers to run, I just saw a pic on Facebook taken today that makes me sick to my stomach:

Before (both photos from thier website):

After (photo from Chris "Pump" Haldeman via Facebook):

Relics - Guest - 08-20-2012

Wow. Cant believe they, OF ALL PEOPLE, sold it to someone for that!

Relics - Guest - 08-20-2012

Sad, if nothing else but for the potential use by a FD where it would be welcome.

Why did they leave the warning lights on it? Corn is not an emergency!

Rheems, please check your PM.

Relics - Frank B - 08-23-2012

Thanks! It's looking ruff.

They replaced it with a 2000 Seagrave Tower

Relics - B95MACKFIRE - 08-23-2012

Took my ladder ops on that rig in 1973 when it was brand new !

Relics - mnsand - 08-26-2012

Each year during my visits to the Outer Banks of North Carolina, I am watching this truck slowly go down hill. It certainly would be nice if a collector could save it.

Last time I saw Hose 5 from Lower Currituck VFD in Currituck County, North Carolina, it was sitting in front of the fire station. I knew it had been for sale.

Now it is close to Lower Currituck VFD, but owned by a Bar-B-Que place in Coinjock and sits out in a field next to the restaurant. The paint is beginning to fade badly.

This one is unique - a 1965 Ford F/Howe with a 500 gpm pump. It has Howe serial number 28404. Does anyone have a Howe serial number database to check on this one?

I am assuming it once was an engine with Lower Currituck, however I have never seen a photo of it. In 1995, Graft added a large reel in the back bed that carried 1000' of 5 inch hose. There is also a seat to the rear of the back wheel for the operator of the reel. You can see that seat folded up in the photo.

I will keep checking this one out as I visit.......I am not sure I will like what I see in the future.

A 1965 Howe should have a production number in the 11500-12000 range, not 28404. They only made it into the 18000's before they shut down in 1992. (Grumman continued the same system)

Relics - Guest - 08-26-2012

Dave,

About how many did they actually make? 18,000?
