Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 04-10-2012 Rescue Engine 510 Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Guest - 04-10-2012 Yorkshire VFD Engine 508-Bravo Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - drfeelgood - 04-10-2012
So why is Dale City liking the KME's? And if they are buying more than one KME engine, why isn't it going front-line somewhere?
Their experience with the Rescue really impressed them with KME. Plus they met the bid at the lowest price and the department is quite comfortable with KME's abilities plus. The pumpers will be Severe Service cabs so they will be a little different than the Rescue. 18 has the oldest front line pumper with the highest mileage (110k) which guarantees 18 getting one of the new KMEs. It hasn't been decided on where the 2nd KME will end up front line but its between 10 and 20 since their 05 Pierces are pushing 90k+.The folks at 10 want to keep the RE front line as long as they can but the mileage is getting high and might force the issue. I understand that 2 more pumpers will be purchased within the next two years so 13 and whatever other 05 Pierce left in front between 10 and 20 will get replaced and all the 05's will be in reserve. As for the Rescue it is holding up well and has had a few issues as with any new unit would but they get resolved quickly because of the dealer and KME's response. The biggest issue has been with the steering on the Tammany indy front suspension but that will be fixed very soon. Needless to say they are going back to straight front axles on all future units because of Tak 4 (to the tune of 15 sets of steering boxes between 5 units with it) and Tammany issues and 17" discs are available on Meritor straight front axle. I will say the Rescue with air ride rear and indy front rides very well. The unit has been an eye opener to folks who may not understand that it's different and meets all current NFPA and EPA requirements such as roll stability max top speed, Regen, and components like Hurst Oct-O-Flow and etc has taken time to get use to and understand. It has never gone back to dealer or KME since it was delivered and after two years in service the paint isn't peeling off or the cab shifted enough to break voltage regulators and burn up alternators or knock off the turbo intake pipe like its predecessor. Man that took some time to get dealer and manufacturer to resolve those issues but just the current situation when they switched brands the dealers of the old brands are less responsive but finally it was solved (and they are not red with a large VA FD name on it). Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - drfeelgood - 04-10-2012
Rescue Engine 510
G2G you need to come by and get a new pic of the RE since the belly compartments have been removed and some compatment reconfig has been completed. Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - VFN102 - 04-10-2012
There are 3 00 Lances which are 10 "B", 18 "B", and 20 "B" all are considered reserve engines but spend plenty of time front line
I would guess the Bravo engines are marked up during high incident times (thunderstorms, etc)? Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - drfeelgood - 04-11-2012
I would guess the Bravo engines are marked up during high incident times (thunderstorms, etc)?
Well yes if needed but again the B Engines are reserves and get used quite a bit as front line and etc. Contrary to popular belief these units are supposed to be called B and not Bravo since it could cause confusion on incident scenes when the alpha numeric "Bravo" can be used to describe a side of a structure. Just FYI and another COG fupa that happens constantly like putting the 5XX numeric in regards to a station which the units are to carry the hundred series number not the station. Trav! Virginia apparatus - miscellaneous - Juice - 04-11-2012 I know it's kind of already been touched on, but didn't 408 originally have Red wheels? Trav! During DPO I got my Pee-pee slapped for driving too fast during evolutions - One of Yorkshire's old Hurricanes. I couldn't help it! Those things are so low to the ground and turn on a dime. OWL has always had nice rigs, but during a fill-in there one night I was riding right side bucket on one of their Hurricane's at FS2 and due to my having wide shoulders I had a hell of a time getting packed up in the back! Between the demise of the Dash's, Lance's and Huricane's I've had to up my medications... Lol. <img src='http://www.firepics.net/groupboards/public/style_emoticons/<#EMO_DIR#>/sad.png' class='bbc_emoticon' alt='' /> Dale City's Lance rigs are fantastic (as are their Dash's). Longer in length bot a lotta room in the back. Sweet rides!
