Only Yellow rigs on KCKFD H-2, H-3. They have painted their Haz-Mat rigs yellow since the 1984 or 1986 Ford C-8000/ E\-One Walkin Rescue that used to be Haz-Mat 2. The first Haz-Mat unit was a converted 1959-1960ish International Boardman Pumper aquired when Shawnee Township was annexed into KCK in the late 1960's. A box was added and yellow slash mark strips were added. KCKFD had the first Haz-Mat unit in the KC Metro if not the Mid-West starting in the 1970's. KCK had and still to a lesser degree has a extremely large indrustrial base.
Note: Oddly both Haz-Mat units have E-Q2b's while the rest of the fleet runs REAL Q2b's. Extra note Pumper 8 and 17 Short Wheelbase Pumpers look like Midi's but are full size, have dual PA-300's with no Q2b siren. Due to these two problems and others the shop no longer specs the rigs.

Ah the tillers,
They have had some issues. The Vogle lube keeps pulling away from the 5th wheel. When the first one was delivered in 1999 the were breaking tiller axle's every time the rig turned left. The first one I believe went to Truck 2 or Truck 11. Truck 8 has not had the pushing. They have lost the PTO for the generator a few times. Just small issues I call nuts and bolts things. Overall these Trucks have held up better than the pumpers but still they don't match the abuse the 1976 Seagrave's endured over their twenty plus year career. And the Seagraves kept on ticking. Sadly all the Seagraves left by 1999 when the first E\-One Super Tiller entered service so many of the KCFD Tillermen now do not know anything other than the E\-One's. We will see, I did hear Rumor just Rumor the tillers will all be sent to Pierce for refurb. Unkown what that would entail
In my mind. Nothing could beat the open Tiller Seats the 1976 Seagraves had with just a windshield and the Federal Becon Ray Pipe Light behing the seat.

Preach on brother. Thats what we had here was Seagraves that just rocked. They are in our reserve pool minus one of them it had a little bit of a fire. Well it was kinda a big fire that totaled the rig. Anyway I agree with you, but this is not the place to bash, just glad to see it wasnt just us. GOD BLESS firetrucks with three flames on the side!

Any chance that KCK T14 was once assigned as T01? Ask because I thought T01 had a '99 E\-One Hurricane 100' also.
And I notice the designation "P" is on the side and obviously stands for "Pumper", but are they referred to as "Pumpers" or "Engines" on the radio?

Hi Chief,
KCKFD has three Trucks all identical 100ft E\-One Hurricanes. I believe but I might be off a year Truck 1, 14 are 1999's and Truck 7 is a 2000. These are the only three Trucks left reduced from six Trucks. The other three are now 75ft Quints, two quints stand alone and one is at a double company.
On the Radio they are Pumpers in KCK and KCMO. Most of the the Missouri suburbs use Pumper and the Kansas suburbs use Engine. It is funny KCK and KCMO both through the 1960's called them Engines but then switched to Pumper. I prefer Pump and Wagon but in the day and age of the triple combnation pumper I prefer Engine.

1976 Seagrave 100ft Tiller refurb in 1986 one of four purchsed and the only one refurbed. The others were at Truck 5, 11 and one was wrecked.
Truck 10 housed at photo in 1993 with Pumper 23, Pumper 12, Car 104
Note: Tiller seat open air, this rig was refurbed in 1986 with new paint and strobe's added light bar also.
KCFD used to have a repaint schedual for all rigs and they would repaint and upgrade lights during the life of the rig. Many of the C-8000's E-Ones had this done and Truck 10 and one 1986 Tiller were the only Trucks I can remeber having this done to. Many rigs were repainted red 1990 and after, this was the case with the 1986 tiller mentioned above.
