Not denying that this isn't safer than some other alternatives, but if one reads NFPA, anyone riding outside an enclosed cab, which has been crash rated, shouldn't be. And if you look, only certain companies will build such arrangements that allow personnel to ride outside of a cab, belted or not.
Sad part is, an angry widow with a sharp attorney will name the fire department, the rig builder, probably the selling dealer and the salesman in a suit to get as much money as they can. And like anything else, while NFPA 1901 isn't law, it is a recognized standard, which a jury will use to award large amount of cash...

Not to often you see twin beacon rays on a piece that's been repainted. Kind of surprised they kept those four lamp rotating lights on the cab roof.

Does anybody out there have any truck or station photos of the former Nottingham Park Fire Protection District, Cook County, located in what is now Burbank, Bridgeview & Bedford Park?
I have included new information from the archives of the Suburbanite Economist newspaper.
The original fire district boundaries were 7100 South to 7700 South and 6000 W. to 8000 W.
I believe that the district existed from about 1951 until late1974. The District had the station rebuilt at 7100 W. 73rd Street in 1971. The District reportedly owned five trucks.
Bridgeview and Burbank established full time/part time paid departments and disbanded the volunteers at Nottingham Park and Burbank Manor in the early 70's. I have found a few photos on the internet of Burbank Manor but absolutely nothing of Nottingham Park FPD. Apparently the Burbank Manor FPD existed in some form for quite a while after the City of Burbank was incorporated in 1970 and the takeover by the city was of a gradual and amicable nature. Nottingham Park FPD was dissolved by court action in late 1974 at the behest of the Village of Bridgeview and The City of Burbank. I'm assuming that Bedford Park was neutral on this matter since their fire stations, at the time, were quite distant from this part of the Village. The initial intent was for Nottingham Park Fire to become the Volunteer Division of the Bridgeview Fire Department, but this apparently did not pan out.
Ironically, Bedford Park recently built a new station just three blocks away (but across "the Moat" ) from the former Nottingham Park fire station.

The Nottingham Park fire station is still standing. No longer used as a fire station, but it is there at the corner of 73rd St and Nottingham (North/West corner). That area is unincorporated and it is covered by the Bridgeview Fire Dept.

Does anyone know if Springfield is still running any of the HME/Luvernes as frontline engines? I know that they've taken delivery of several Pierce Quantum pumpers over the past few years, and have seen the pics of them here in the Illinois forum, but I didn't know if the HMEs were all in reserve now. I know they were running an International 4900/? as a reserve pumper at one time, and did see a picture of it here in the Illinois forum awhile back, but not sure if they still have this rig.

JM82 yes engine 8 is still running an HME/Luverne and the International 4900 is a KME and it is frontline service but can't remember what engine, Old Chatham Rd. house. Rest have been replaced

Thanks for the info! That would be Engine 9 running the IHC/KME. I didn't realize Springfield had taken delivery of that many Pierce Dash and Quantum pumpers over the past several years and that only 2 engine companies' rigs remain to be replaced. Unfortunately it looks like Engines 8 and 9 may be waiting awhile before they get their new pumpers. From what I understand Springfield F.D. is hurting financially, after reading their 2011 Annual Report.
I took an interest in the Springfield Fire Department back in the mid-1990s when davedubo and I took a ride up there for the Illinois Association of Fire Protection Districts Conference and Expo. We buffed around, went to several of S.F.D.s firehouses and took pictures of the rigs. Then the conference moved to Decatur for 2 years because the hotel in Springfield where it was held was being torn down and rebuilt as a Crowne Plaza Hotel. When the conference moved back to Springfield it was held at the Crowne Plaza, but then the following year it was moved to the civic center downtown.
My wife and daughter and I were up in Springfield just last week Wednesday and Thursday to see the Lincoln home, the museum and library, as well as the state capitols, old and new. I didn't get to buff around, though, since it was a family trip. But S.F.D. did have a working house fire on Wednesday morning while I was there. It figures!

Yes SFD was having rolling brown outs last summer until they lost against the union filing grievances for minimum staffing. Finally have everyone back to work for now!
